Wendell Scott, 85, formerly of Rochester, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Peabody Retirement Community where he resided in recent years.

On April 21, 1941, Lewis Wendell was born in Rochester to Basil A. and Martha Lewis Scott. He was later united in marriage to Carol L. Coffman on June 30, 1963, at the Olive Branch Church in Fulton. Together, they were blessed with three sons, Roger, Gary, and Glen. Their family tree beautifully blossomed over the years to include five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Sadly, Carol preceded him in death on December 13, 2019 after sharing 56 years of life's wonderful adventures together.

A dedicated steward of the land, Wendell devoted his life to cultivating his grain fields and managing his farrow-to-finish hog operation. It was also a common sight to find a few beef cattle roaming the lot. The backbone of his farming legacy was his fleet of prized John Deere tractors and implements.

When he wasn't tending to the fields, Wendell poured his passion into woodworking. Outfitted with every necessary tool and piece of equipment, his wood shop was a haven of creativity. He will be fondly remembered for the handcrafted wooden puzzles, brain teasers, and custom pieces he lovingly made for family and friends. Among his most cherished creations are the stunning oak chests and grandfather clocks he crafted for his sons, milled from the very walnut and oak timber found on his own property.

For many years, Wendell also served as the sexton of the Reichter Cemetery, where he provided meticulous care and showed the deepest respect for the families of his community.

A man of deep faith, Wendell was a former member of the Tiosa First Brethren Church and the Whippoorwill Community Church, and most recently attended the North Manchester First Brethren Church. He loved the Lord wholeheartedly and quietly taught his family the value of faith by leading through example.

Left to cherish Wendell’s memory are two sons: Gary (Karen) Scott of Macy, Glen (Angela) Scott of Shipshewana; daughter-in-law, Joan (Kevin) Cadwallader of Rochester; five grandchildren: Anna (Justin) Perry, Abigail Bauman, Aaron (Haley) Scott, Adam Scott, Zoe Scott; five great-grandchildren: Caitlyn, Oliver, Roger, Scarlett, and Serenity; brother, Veril (Janet) Scott of Reno, NV; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents; wife, Carol; and son, Roger Scott on August 19, 2018.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 19, 2026, at the Good Family Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to visit from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 18, 2026, and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Interment will follow in the Reichter Cemetery, located northeast of Rochester.
