Virginia Woodley Knapp, 98, of Rochester passed away at 3:35 AM, Monday, May 7, 2012 at Hickory Creek of Rochester where she had resided the past five years. She was born on March 14, 1914 in Benton Harbor, MI to Forrest and Mable Abbott Woodley. Ginny graduated from Elmhurst High School, Chicago, IL with the class of 1933. On December 16, 1939, she married Sam Clark, he preceded on December 27, 1959. Ginny and Alden "Torchy" Knapp were married on June 3, 1961. He preceded on August 10, 1994. While living in Benton Harbor, Ginny was a legal secretary for 11 years. After moving to Rochester she busied herself with volunteering at the Woodlawn Hospital and the former Green Thumb Program for Step Ahead and First Steps. She made many friends while being a part of these social services. Crocheting baby blankets and caps and dishrags for the hospital and friends was a favorite hobby. Ginny always looked forward to the Saturday morning round table breakfasts at the Chicken Coop and Margaritas with her circle of friends. Ginny was a member of the Methodist Church of St. Joseph, MI and the Grace United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star, both of Rochester. She will be lovingly remembered by her family Dee Dague, of Akron, Teri White of Rochester, Robert & Deloros Carter of Cross Plains, TX, Greg & Teri Carr and their daughters, Ryleigh, Chaneigh and Sidneigh of Rochester, and a multitude of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother Martin Woodley. Pastors Teri White and Maurice Grindle will officiate services. She will be laid to rest in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
