Mrs. Vernice N. Rhodes, 84, of 315 Fulton Ave. Rochester. passed away at 5:20 AM, Tuesday, March 6th, 2012 at Life Care Center. Vernice was born in Rochester, on May 9, 1927, the daughter of Wilbur and Lillie Opple Craig. Growing up she shared her childhood as the youngest of seven children, including three sisters and three brothers. A life time Fulton County resident, Vernice was a proud Rochester High School graduate, a member of the class of 1945. On March 8, 1946, Vernice and Dale Rhodes were married in Rochester. Their union of 58 years produced 3 daughters and a son. The family tree flourished with the addition of 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. As a homemaker, Vernice was busy taking care of her family. She thoroughly enjoyed knitting afghans and baby blankets for the newest additions to the family tree. Sewing clothing was also a talent of hers. She liked to stay in touch , by visiting with her friends. A loyal and devoted member of the Riverview Community Church, Vernice was also active in the at the Area V Senior Center. She kept in shape by attending exercise class. As a member of the Woodlawn Ladies Auxiliary, she volunteered at the Woodlawn Hospital for 42 years. Vernice is lovingly remembered by her 3 daughters: Sandra Rogers of Rochester, Kimberly England & husband Robert of Vandalia, OH, Michelle Hubenthal & husband Todd of Logansport; a son, Dale Lynn Rhodes & wife Karen of Celina, OH; 10 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband Dale on October 25, 2004, 3 sisters: Esther Bowen, Mildred Wagoner, Mable Wagoner, and 3 brothers: Devon Craig, Lloyd Craig, and Raymond Craig. Rev. Rod Ruberg will officiate. She will be laid to eternally rest next to her beloved husband, Dale at Rochester's IOOF Cemetery. .
