Mrs. Terry Lynn Howdeshell, 65, of Rochester, passed away unexpectedly at 6:31 PM, Tuesday, August 14th, 2012 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
Born in Rochester on January 27, 1947, Terry was the the precious daughter of Earl and Estella Ring Smiley. The youngest of the Smiley kids, Terry shared her childhood with 4 sisters and 6 brothers. As a proud Zebra, she graduated with her Rochester High School class in May of 1965. After high school she attended nursing school in Ft. Wayne.
Switching gears Terry's interests moved to cosmetology and in Logansport, she went on to beauty school. Returning home Terry opened the Nu Look Styling Salon where she enhanced ladies hairstyles for over 20 years. On June 25, 1966 Terry and Larry Joe Howdeshell were married in Rochester. Their marriage of over 46 years produced three handsome sons Greg, Scot and Todd. The family tree grew over the years with the added blessing of 10 grandchildren.
An avid card player, Terry enjoyed euchre and bridge with her buddies at the senior center and the Eagles. Challenging her with the card game Uno were her grandchildren. She and Larry enjoyed excursions to Blue Chip and the Golden Nugget. They traveled visiting casinos, from Connecticut to Nevada and many places in between. Terry most usually experienced good luck with her ability to hit the jackpot! Known as the queen of QVC, Terry enjoyed good values and the convenience of home shopping.
She was a member of Rochester's Elk's Lodge and the Eagles. A nature lover, Terry enjoyed observing and feeding common backyard birds. She annually planted flowers around her home to add color to the landscape. As matriarch of the Howdeshell family, Terry embraced the opportunity to be with her grandchildren. She and Larry were designated as number one cheerleaders of the grandkids following there athletic contests, musical concerts and academic competition. Terry is known for her twinkling eyes, warm smile, vivacious energy level, positive attitude, light sense of humor and being a natural beauty both inside and out.
Terry will be lovingly remembered by her husband Larry, at home; three sons: Greg Howdeshell & wife Janice, Scot Howdeshell & wife Andrea, and Todd Howdeshell & wife Leslie, all of Rochester; 10 grandchildren: Brandon O'Dell, Kaytlin Howdeshell, Megan Howdeshell, Jonathon O'Dell, Dean Howdeshell, Jacob Howdeshell, Hannah O'Dell, Emma Howdeshell, Mia Howdeshell, and Isabella Howdeshel; and a brother John Smiley of Sebring, FL. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 sisters: Ruth Tullis, Gladys Smiley, Joyce Truex, Jean Jenkins; and 5 brothers: Bob Smiley Jr, Dean Smiley, Don Smiley, Ray Smiley, and Dale Smiley.
A celebration of the life of Terry L. Howdeshell & Larry Joe Howdeshell will be Friday, March 24 , 2023 at 1:00 PM on in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18 th St., Rochester. Friends may visit with the family for two hours prior to the service. Pastor Jerry Lee Patrick will officiate. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery..
