Mr. Ted Leroy Halterman, 64, of Rochester, passed away unexpectedly at 9:00 AM, Thursday, October 17th, at Woodlawn Hospital Emergency Room. Born on December 31,1948, in Rochester, Ted was the oldest of two sons of Harrison Robert "Het" and Lois Eileen Waltz Halterman. Growing up he shared his childhood with Lynn. In May of 1967 with great Zebra pride Ted graduated from Rochester High School. Following high school, patriotism beckoned, and Ted answered the call serving with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1968 - 1971. Ted and Alma Jean Urbin were married on March 1, 1975 in Rochester. Together the raised two children, Eric and Ginger. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of 10 grandchildren. Until 1993, Alma and Ted lived near Lafayette when they moved to Rochester. During their Lafayette years he was a manager and an accomplished carpenter with Best Way Roofing and Siding. As the King of Miracle Grow and Seven Dust, Ted planted a raised a bountiful vegetable garden annually. Each fall he and Alma harvested the crop and froze and canned the delightful veggies for use during the winter months. Outdoors he also enjoyed mowing and manicuring the lawn. As a chef for the family, Ted was at home from his kitchen command post making prime rib dinners for the family to enjoy during special celebrations and the holidays or as grill master grilling steaks to perfection. To relax he enjoyed TV shows from the 1950s - 1970's. Some of his favorites were the Rifleman, Dennis the Menace, Gunsmoke, The 3 Stooges, and M.A.S.H. Ted enjoyed paling around with his canine buddy Zoey a Golden Retriever/Black Lab mix. Paramount in his life was his family that he adored. Ted was always there with them and for them putting their needs before his, a caretaker for those who needed him most. Ted instilled an appreciation for history to his children by planning vacations to historic locations. The Smoky Mountains, Pigeon Forge, Orlando and Ft. Myers were favorite destinations. His family's most memorable trip was Washington D.C. where he introduced them to Arlington, the White House, Smithsonian and a treasured visit to the Vietnam Veteran Wall. Left to cherish Ted's memory are his wife Alma; a daughter, Ginger Richard and husband T.J. of Rochester; two sons: Eric Halterman and wife Ashley of Rochester, Craig Powell and his wife of Fishers; 10 grandchildren: Alynna Eileen Richard, Abigail Evelyn Richard, Gage Brazen Richard, Payton Robert Halterman, Adrienne Elyzabeth Halterman, Brooklyn Marie Halterman, Ella Lynn Halterman, David Wayne Andrews III, Ella Powell, Abby Powell; a brother, Lynn Halterman and Wife Mary Kaye of Carolina Beach, NC, several nieces and nephews and his loyal and devoted canine companion Zoey. Preceding Ted in death are his parents: father Het in March of 1983, step father Dale Peterson November of 2012, and mother Eileen in June 21, 2013. The Halterman family wishes to express their grateful appreciation to Ch. Jason See, Ginger's work family at the Woodlawn Hospital ER and the Fulton County Medics for their love and support at the unexpected passing of their treasured husband, father, and grandfather, Ted. Chaplain Jason See will officiate services. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Fulton County Honor Guard and the US Army Honor Guard.
