Mr. Steve G. Schoen, 52, of Rochester was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at home on August 5, 2014. Born on August 23, 1961 in Rochester, Steve was a treasured son of Robert and Maxine Emery Schoen. Growing up he shared his childhood with a brother Bobby and two sisters, Sandy and Susan. The family experienced one of many memorable vacations when they traveled to the World's Fair in 1964, in Spokane, Washington. Steve was an active participant with many athletic teams during his years as a Rochester High School Zebra. With great pride he graduated from RHS with his class in 1979. An successful entrepreneur, Steve was a distributor for the Mikesell's Corporation. He also was a member of the Moose Lodge Family Center #1107 and the Elk's Club both of Rochester. Experiencing the freedom of the open road, Steve road a shiny Black Kawaski 1000 LTD. There were many trips to Michigan. He once made a white knuckle ride across the bridge at Mackinac Island from Traverse City. Steve and buddy bikers Chuck Pocock and Ron Riggle took to the roads for a marathon trip traveling to California. As an American Sportsman, Steve loved fishing in both Michigan and Indiana. Armed with his trusty casting rod and tackle box, the catch of the day included a variety of pan fish and sometimes walleye. An avid golfer, Steve enjoyed hanging out with his golfing pals at the Elks, his favorite course. Steve loved and cherished his children Garrett and Shelby more than life itself. When he was with them making memories, he was living his dream. Always there to attend to their needs, he was a Dad who demonstrated his love through his endearing actions. Remembering his childhood, he taught them the love and appreciation of camping out under the starlight skies. Sometimes they ventured to Yogi Bear, or to Grandma Maxine's in Michigan. Other times they pitched the tent in their own backyard. The family enjoyed many memorable trips to the Atlantic's Holden Beach with special friends. Summers brought on many precious memories when Steve fired up the 1984 Ski Nautique---it was tubin' time for Shelby, Garrett and their friends. Summers brought on girl's softball league, and Steve coached Shelby and her teammates annually. Everyone who met Steve made a lifelong friend. His positive attitude, warm smile and twinkling eyes where contagious and could light up a room. Left to cherish Steve's memory are his children Garrett Schoen and Shelby Schoen, both at home; soulmate Debra Belcher; his father Bob Schoen and wife Delores, all of Rochester; mother Maxine Scutt of Coldwater, MI; two sisters: Sandy Schoen and husband David Strzempek of Traverse City, MI, and Susan Kandell and husband Ken of Eaton Rapids, MI; brother Bobby Schoen and wife Lori; two nephews: Brody Schoen and Zach Schoen, all of Rochester; a niece Angela Dillingham of Eaton Rapids, MI; and the many friends he made along life's journey. Pastor Teri White will officiate services.
