Stanley
Stevens
Jan 15, 1929 — Nov 7, 2021
Mr. Stanley F. Stevens, 92, of Delong passed away at 6:18 AM, on Sunday, November 7 , 2021 at his residence.
On January 15 , 1929, Stanley Franklin was born in Carter County, KY to James Harm and Margaret Barker Stevens. He was the second youngest of 11 children. After high school patriotism beckoned and Stanley answered the call serving our country with the United States Army during the Korean War.
Stanley and Brenda Sue Collins were married on January 14 , 1956 in Morehead, KY. They shared 51 years of life's adventures. From their union came a daughter and six sons. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of two more generations.
Known affectionately as the Mayor of Delong, Stanley's home was situated strategically in downtown Delong, perfect to oversee the town's business from his front porch. A talented musician Stanley could play with authority the fiddle, banjo guitar and mandolin. With a passion for bluegrass, he once played with Tom T. Hall.
Stanley and his brothers were lumberjacks, grooming forest projects from the ground they owned, later selling the sawmill to Pike Lumber. He was accomplished with saws, the axe and all tools used to harvest lumber. Stanley was a dedicated employee at Gerox in Knox for 25 years. To relax he enjoyed tinkering in his garage repairing lawn mowers. He also made many memories fishing on the banks of the Tippecanoe River with his casting rod accompanied by buddies Elmo and Bob.
Left to cherish Stanley's memory are a daughter, Judy Scroggs and husband Mark Pratt of Delong; five sons; Phillip Stevens and wife Brenda of Rochester; Tim Stevens and wife Penny of Rochester; Ryan Stevens and wife Tina of Culver; Mark Stevens of Delong; Christopher Stevens and wife Raeanne of Culver; 16 grandchildren: Mike, Johnny, Carly, Wesley, T.J., Brandon, Ashley, Blake, Levi, Brandi, Collin, Tyler, Shane, Carter, Natalie, Landon; 22 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and Charlie, the black and tan custom blend.
