SMS Howard Dean Cook, Ret., 90, of Rochester passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne.

On March 11, 1935, Howard Dean was born in Fulton to Walter and Zella Carter Cook. As one of twelve children, growing up he shared his childhood with seven sisters and four brothers.

At the age of 17, Howard enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on April 1, 1952 and after 22 years of service retired on September 1, 1974. Later he worked at Universal Fire Apparatus of Logansport.

Howard enjoyed nature. He kept his lawn looking pristine and enjoyed watching the wildlife. As an arm chair quarterback, he liked to watch all sports on TV.   Above all, he cherished the time with his family, creating memories.

Howard and Carolyn S. Boehme were married and had shared 72 years of life's adventures.

Left to cherish the memories of Howard are his wife Carolyn, at home; a daughter, Chris Cook of Pierceton; three sons: Bob Cook, Dean Cook ( Faith), David Rigney all of Rochester; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two sisters, Hazel Goings of South Whitley, Jane Champ (Gary) of Lucerne; a brother, George Cook (Carolyn) of New Haven; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Howard in death are his parents; two daughters: Cathy Cook on June 9, 2018, Cindy Cook on June 17, 2019; a son, Billy Don Cook on March 4, 2022; five sisters and three brothers.

A celebration of the life of SMS Howard Dean Cook, Ret., will be at a later date.

Military Honors will be conducted by the Fulton County Veteran's Honor Guard and the US Air Force Honors Team.
