Sheryl J. "Sheri" Woods, 64, of Rochester, passed away at 12:05 AM,
Saturday, June 3
, 2017 at the
Center For Hospice Care in South Bend
.
On
January 29
, 1953, Sheryl was born in Rochester. She was a treasured daughter of Robert Henry and Barbara Pontious Schweir. Growing up she shared her childhood with a sister Diana. With great Flyer pride, Sheri graduated with the Akron High School class of 1971.
During the early years Sheri volunteered at the Pontious Nursing Home in Rochester. With a soft-spot for seniors she continued to volunteer as a bingo caller. Her calling days evolved into playing days and Sheri could masterfully play multiple cards.
Each spring brought on the mushroom hunting . Sheri enjoyed searching thru her favorite secret woods looking for the morels. She traveled with Ann and Linda to explore Shipshewana in search of the perfect bargain. She also valued the friendships she made as well as the great bargains she garnered at garage sales and auctions.
A woman of great independence, Sheri was diagnosed with
Multiple-Sclerosis back in 1978. She persevered through life's journey with great faith and a positive attitude. She prevailed and was victorious. Protective of her family and friends Sheri was there to help everyone as a "Mother Hen," with all of the daily challenges. She leaves a great legacy of a positive spirit and helping heart.
Left to cherish Sheri's memory are two sons: Mike Woods and wife Lisa, and Matt Woods and wife Rachel, all of Rochester; granddaughter Ciara Dawn Woods; a sister, Diana Shoemaker and husband Jerry of Akron; two nieces: Angie Hudkins and husband Todd, and Kristin Will and husband Adam; a nephew Craig Merrill; and canine companion, Brody a caramel colored Yorkie.
Preceding Sheryl in death are her parents.
A celebration of the life of Sheryl J. Woods will be from 4:00 - 7:00 Wednesday,
June 14th
in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester. On Saturday,
June 17th
, at 10:00 AM, there will be a graveside service
at the Athens-Hoover Cemetery, located on the east edge of Athens. Pastor Terry Baldwin will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Multiple-Sclerosis Association, 375 Kings Highway North, Cherry Hill, New Jersey 08034.
