Obituary

Former  Rochester resident, Mr. Scotty B. Shelburne, 59, of Camden, South Carolina, passed away, following a valiant  battle with cancer, Saturday, January 23 , 2016, at  Palmetto Baptist Hospital, Columbia, SC.

On August 31 . 1956  Scotty Boyd Shelburne was born in Noblesville. He was a treasured son of Howard Dale and  Rebecca Jacquelyne Wire Shelburne. Growing up as one of eleven children Scott was the third oldest, sharing his childhood with four sisters and six brothers.  The Shelburne family moved to Rochester when he was a youngster.  During his high school years Scott employed his gift of rhythm as a member of the percussion section in the band.  He was a fleet--footed four year letterman running for the RHS Cross-country team.  In 1974 with great Zebra pride, Scott graduated from Rochester High School.

Initially Scott worked for Wilson's Coal & Grain.  For twenty-seven years from 1980 - 2007 he worked for Target Corporation with stints in Indiana at Lebanon and Brownsburg before being transferred to South Carolina in 2002.  Since 2007 he was a self-employed independent contractor for Central Payment Corporation.

An accomplished ham radio operator, Scott was known to his buddies as "kb9jxi."  He spent hours on the radio, making many friends over the air-waves.  He cheered for the Colts and Pacers.  To relax Scott enjoyed catching the warm summer breeze while riding his  cream and crimson Yamaha.  In 2004 he and Barney enjoyed a memorable road trip thru the Smokies and Blue Ridge Mountains while traveling to the Tail of the Dragon.  A sun lover, Scott maintained a golden tan.  Annually he planted a colorful flower garden to enhance the landscape of his home.  An avid photographer, Scott enjoyed capturing the beauty of nature, sunsets, wildlife and the most important subjects in his life, his family.

Passionate about his family, Scott truly adored his daughters.  He was a brother who was admired and could be counted on to share wisdom or help out with whatever might be needed.   If there was an opportunity for an adventure Scott was always ready for action.  He cherished the time spent with his family.

Left to cherish Scott's memory are  three daughters: Jenifer Shelburne Rodriguez and wife Kindra Field of Rochester, Brittney Bodie and husband Blaine, Jacksonville, NC, Riley Shelburne and companion Daniel Gambrell, Camden, SC, four sisters: Tammy See of Rochester; Betsy Shelburne of State College, PA,  Misty DePoy and husband Timothy; Mindy Navarro and husband Hector all of Rochester; five brothers: Jeffrey Shelburne and wife Jeanie of Rochester; Rusty Shelburne and wife Laurie of Scott, MI; Rodney Shelburne and wife Darla of Warsaw,  Randy Shelburne and wife Carol of Rochester, Barney Shelburne and wife Lorraine of Byron,IL; numerous nieces, nephews  great-nieces, great-nephews; and two feline companions: Layla and Michael, black and white domestic short-haired cats.

Preceding Scotty in death are his parents and a brother Gary Shelburne on June 25 , 2014.

Pastor Mike VanHeyningen will officate servcies.  Scotty will be laid to rest in the family plot at the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
