Sandra (Sandie) Susan Hazel, 68 of Rochester passed into God's loving arms on May 24 , 2019 at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, with husband Barry and friend J Arthur Howard at her bed side.

On July 24 , 1950, Sandra Susan Ashworth was born in Lansing, Michigan. She was a treasured daughter of Kerns (Charlie) and Lucille Della (Hosley) Ashworth growing up with her older brother, Kerns, on Spartan Ave in East Lansing, MI. She attended East Lansing H.S.

In November of 1968, Sandie married Steve Stansfield and together they had 3 children, Steven, Brittney and Joe.

On St. Valentine's Day, 1987 Sandie married Barry Hazel in Mason, MI. They have enjoyed over 32 years of life's adventures. They moved from Lansing to South Bend in May, 1987 and then to Rochester in May, 1994.

During 25 years living in Rochester, Sandie worked a number of local businesses. Starting at Margarita's as a waitress then sewing pockets at the Hart Schaffner and Marx factory. From 1995 to 2001 she owned and operated Video Watchers video and gift store selling a ton of Beanie Babie plush characters. After the store closed, she worked at Couch Potato Video, Combined Insurance, the local AFLAC office, Thin and Healthy and finally at Superior Sample sewing coin purses. When the plant closed, she became a fulltime homemaker.

Sandie served a year as President of Rochester Rotary Cub then 3 years as Assistant Governor for Rotary District 6540 watching over a half dozen locate Rotary Clubs. She attended The Cross church and was an active member of the Rochester and Akron Red Hat chapters, Fulton County Republican Women, and Busy Belles Homemaker Club. She enjoyed socializing and playing cards with the Euchre Club. Sandie loved to travel and visited over a dozen countries in Europe, North America, Central America and the Caribbean. She enjoyed both local and national politics and contributed by serving as a poll worker during numerous election seasons. Sandie was "locally famous" for her homemade raspberry jelly. She won several blue ribbons at the Fulton County Fair with her jelly. Sandie earned Grand Champion in 2018. She made a final act of service with the Indiana Donor Network.

Left to cherish Sandie's memory are her loving husband Barry of Rochester; a daughter Britney Stansfield Walsh and husband Tom in Tooele, UT; 2 sons, Steve Stansfield of Salt Lake City, UT and Joe Stansfield of Clayton, NC; 10 grandchildren; and many dear friends in Rochester and elsewhere.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Kerns (Charlie) and Lucille Ashworth; a brother, Kerns Ashworth;  her favorite cat, Georgie; and her beloved miniature poodle, Charlie Brown.

A July 6th celebration of Sandie's life at 2:00 PM will be officiated by Pastor Mike Cloud at The Cross Church. Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to The Cross, 102 W. 3rd St, Rochester, IN 46975, The Fulton County Animal Shelter, 1540 Wentzel St., Rochester or the Busy Belles Homemaker Club at the Purdue Extension Office on the Fulton County Fairgrounds.
