Mrs. Ruth M. Green, 80, of Rochester was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 7:40 p.m. March 5th at her home. Born in New Waverly on November 13, 1932, Ruth was the precious daughter of Thurman and Lova Snyder Azbell. As one of 7 children, she shared her childhood with a sister and five brothers. Ruth, a proud Zebra, graduated from Rochester High School with her class in 1951. On June 13, 1953, Ruth and William "Junior" Green were married at the 1st Christian Church of Rochester. Their union of 40 years produced four wonderful children: Sheryll, Brian, Mickey and Misty. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of three grandchildren. A loyal employee of Topps, Ruthie retired after 33 years of dedicated service. She achieved the most distinguished honor with the Eagles, being designated as a "Golden Eagle." She was also a member of the Moose Lodge Family Center and the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F. W. An accomplished kegler for over six decades, Ruthie was a fierce competitor. Her love for bowling all began at the alley's above Bailey's Hardware, as she was a pin setter in the late 1940's. With authority, she let the good times roll---as a member of the "High 5" at Quick's Lanes, most years sitting perched atop at the number one ranking. A member of the coveted "250 Club," Ruthie once rolled a 699 series--including games of 265 and 256. Over the years she bowled for Cook's, Quick's, Texaco and the Eagles teams. It was around 1963 that Ruthie and her mother, Lova Azbell, introduced our community to Bunco---forming the Bunco Club, that friends from around the area are members still rolling the dice. Paramount in her life was her family. Ruthie cherished the time spent and memories made with her children and grandchildren. There were many summer parties enjoyed with family and friends, especially the 4th of July parties at Misty's. For the past 13 years, Ruthie's best friend and faithful companion was Merle Collins. Together they enjoyed life's adventures. He cared for her with admiration and respect during her times of greatest need. Sharing many interests, they played cards---especially euchre. They traveled around northern Indiana to various locales to locally at our Senior Center and the Eagles, enjoying many spirited games. Cranking up the music at the dance halls---Merle and Ruthie would dance the night away till the wee hours dancing a variety of styles including the two-step. Her favorite---which she was best known for, was the Chicken dance, allowing for touch of wildness to escape! Ruth is lovingly remembered by her companion Merle Collins; two daughters: Sheryll Green, and Misty Eskridge and husband Keith; two sons: William "Brian" Green and wife Janelle, all of Rochester, and Mickey Green of Kewanna; a sister, Janet "Dolly" Ballinger of Rochester; three brothers: Merrill Azbell and wife Grace of North Manchester, Wendell "Wendy" Azbell and wife Carol of North Vernon, Daryle Azbell and wife Carolyn of Peru; 3 grandchildren: Larry Ryan Green, Mitchell Dean Green, Chaz William G. Green, all of Rochester. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband William "Junior" Green on December 3, 1993, and 2 brothers, Harold Dean Azbell and Maurice Azbell. Rev. Junior Bose will officiate services. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
