Russ and Alice "Lee" Showley were married on August 2 , 1947. They shared 24 years of life's adventures. They were the proud parents of five children, Cheryl, Larry, Karen, Jan and Lorena. Sadly, Lee passed away on November 14 , 1971.
On April 24 , 1973, Russ married Joan Milord. After over 22 years together she passed away on September 22 , 2005.
With a strong work ethic, and many diverse interests Russ worked for the Erie Railroad, at the tomato station for the health inspector, Studebakers, Stineberger Constructions, Interstate Piping Co., and was the owner of the Kibtzer in Kewanna.
Gifted with his hands, Russ was a talented woodworker making numerous special "heirloom gifts," for family and special friends. From toy boxes, to cradles, end tables, picture frames a grandfather's clock and gun cabinet each piece was custom built to specifications with lots of love in his heart for his family to cherish and hand down to the next generation.
Russ was a member of the Manitou Veterans of Foreign Wars # 1343 and the Eagles Lodge, both of Rochester. He enjoyed reading multiple daily newspapers, watching NASCAR, the Colts, Indiana University and Purdue University. Russ rooted for any team playing against Notre Dame.
Left to cherish the memories of Russ are three daughters: Karen Boldry and husband Phil of Macy, Jan Futrell of Rochester, Lorena Fields and husband Darrell of Kewanna; son-in-law, Gerry Hizer of Kewanna; daughter-in-law, Pam Carr Dowell of Rochester; 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and very special nieces and nephews: Patricia Joan Clary of Rochester, Art Hoffman and wife Lela of Rochester and Bill Hoffman of Florida.
Preceding Russ in death are his parents Harley and Clara Carr; wives Lee and Joan; his oldest daughter, Cheryl Jean Hizer on November 2 , 2004; his only son Larry James Carr on December 20 , 2013; and his siblings.
Private family services will be held on Tuesday in the Good Family Funeral Home. It will be live streamed at 11:00 AM on the dedicated Facebook page JD Good. Please join us as Donnie Kohls will officiate. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Andimal Education and Adoption Center.
