Mr. Rudolph A. "Rudy" Rom, 96, of Rochester passed away at 9:21 PM Saturday, February 23 , 2019 at Wynnfield Crossing, Rochester.

On November 30 , 1922, Rudolph Anthony Rom was born in Chicago, IL. He was a treasured son of Bernard and Agnes Stanisa Rom. Rudy graduated from Harrison Technical High School in 1940. He later attended Atlanta's Georgia Tech University for 2 years while in the Army.

A member of the "Greatest Generation," Mr. Rom is a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the field artillery, participating in the Battle of Luzon. On March 11 , 1946, he was honorably discharged at Camp Grant, Illinois.

On August 20 , 1948, Rudy and Lorraine Herodes were married in Chicago. They enjoyed more than six decades of life's adventures. They had two sons, Ron and Gary. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of two more generations.

Rudy started out as a tool and die maker then transitioned that skill and his education into a mechanical engineer. As an inventor or co-inventor, he created over 30 patents in camera's, tape recorders, optics and plasma arc cutters.

Survivors include: two sons: Ronald Rom and wife Diana of Rochester, Gary B. Rom and wife Evey of Huntington, Mass; three grandsons: US Army Lt. Col. Bill Rom and wife Kolleen of Fort Riley KS, Gary R. Rom and wife Abby of Zionsville, Travis Rom of Madeira Beach, FL; five great-grandchildren: Conor, Mackinzie, Cooper, Eliza and Ian Rom.

Preceding Rudy in death are his parents and beloved wife Lorraine on January 19 , 2009.

Interment will be in the Mount Auburn Memorial Park of Stickney, IL.
