Mr. Roy Edward McClellan , 79, of Rochester, passed away at 5:06 PM on Sunday, November 8 , 2020 at DuPont Hospital of Fort Wayne.

On September 26 , 1941, Roy was born in Pulaski County to Harry and Meta Holt McClellan.  Growing up as the youngest of the six McClellan children, Roy shared his childhood two sisters and three brothers.  With great Warrior pride, he graduated from Winamac High School in 1959.

In Rochester's Church of the Nazarene, Roy married the love of his life, Joan C. Carpenter, on June 12 , 1960.  They celebrated their 60th anniversary this past June. Their union produced three wonderful children Kathy, Kevin and Keith. Two more generations have been added to the family tree.

For 53 years Roy was a dedicated member of the Union Local # 103 Operators.  He was the treasurer of the local Pheasants Forever Chapter and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge.  Joan and Roy have participated in the Trail of Courage since 1976.  He was also known as War Chief Rolling Thunder.

A talented musician, Roy sang while he played the acoustic guitar.  His repertoire included gospel and country.  He enjoyed performing at church.  Roy and Joan hosted the annual Christmas Dinner for family and special friends.  They all enjoyed the feast and a songfest led by Roy.  Always at the top of his playlist was "Chocolate Ice Cream Cone," a family favorite.

Annually, Roy and Joan planted a truck patch garden.  The bountiful harvest fed the family and the entire neighborhood.  An American sportsman, Roy hunted deer, pheasant and turkey.  He fished at top secret fishing holes around the county.  To relax, Roy loved to cut wood.

Paramount in his life was his family. Grandpa or Papa Roy was so very proud to oversee four generations. He loved and adored his grandchildren and looked forward to the holidays and special family celebrations

Left to cherish Roy's memories are his wife, Joan; three children: Kevin McClellan and wife Angela, Keith McClellan and wife Dawn, Kathy Flook and husband Robert all of Rochester; ten grandchildren: Stephanie Abbott Harding and husband Holt, Dennis Bradley, Kristi Alexander and husband Ricky, Melissa Sargent and husband Chris, Aaron McClellan and fiancé Hannah, Tyler McClellan and wife Sarah, Erica McClellan and companion Benjamin Cripe, Jeremy Flook and wife Penny, Jacob Flook and companion Samantha Jolley, Jichaela Flook and companion Jared Lee; two great grandchildren: Kyle McClellan, Oliver McClellan and another blessing due to arrive on February 13 , 2021; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Roy in death are his parents, Harry and Meta McClellan; two sisters: Leona Crissinger, and Marilyn Stamper; and three McClellan brothers: Harry Jr., Bobby Gene and Harold Burton.

Private family services will be held. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF   Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to assist with medical expenses.
