Rose Marie Wagoner, 70, 2544 Southway 31, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester. She was born in Logansport on Nov. 23, 1940, to Loren and Roxie MacLain Fry. As the oldest of the children Rose enjoyed her childhood with two sisters, Helen and Shirley, and two brothers, Joe and John. Living in southern Fulton County near the town of Fulton, Rose was a proud member of the Fulton High School Class of 1959. Following high school, Rose attended and graduated from Indiana College of Commerce in South Bend with an associate's degree in business. During her time in South Bend she met her best friend and love of her life, Robert J. Wagoner. They solemnized their wedding vows on Nov. 20, 1960, in Fulton. Their marriage of 50 and a half years yielded a beautiful daughter, Rachelle. The family tree grew with the additions of four wonderful grandchildren. During her years in the workforce, Rose served as office manager for American States Insurance. She appreciated the many friendships she made and knowledgeably addressed clients' needs and questions. With great taste for style and fashion, Rose loved to shop for her family, especially following the arrival of her grandchildren. An accomplished and gifted musician, Rose expressed herself well on the keyboards of the piano and organ, playing for Sunday church services during her high school years. She loved an array of styles from classical music to Elvis, and could play almost anything by ear. In high school she played the trombone in the band, but also mastered the accordion, guitar and trumpet. Rose appreciated the adventures she found in novels, romance and westerns, and she especially liked the works of Danielle Steele and Louis L'Amour. Traveling with family and friends were some of the best times to be shared. Bob and Rose enjoyed extended vacations in the Florida sunshine of Lake Placid and Bonita Springs. Sister Shirley traveled with Rose to the beaches of Hawaii. Many summer vacations were enjoyed with Rachelle, Bob and sometimes friends fishing on the lakes near Nevis, Minn. When the aroma of chocolate chip cookies filled their home, grandma Rose and her grandkids could be found baking together in the kitchen. They also enjoyed baking and decorating sugar cookies. Teaching her grandchildren the technique of watercolor painting was a favorite activity during visits. Challenges of board games and intricate puzzles were also tackled together. Uno was the preferred card game by all. Once Grandma and Payton treasured a marathon tournament of 100 games in a weekend. Always competitive Payton kept a scorecard to preserve the outcome. One of Rose's greatest traits was her loving and caregiving nature. Always putting others needs before her own, she was there for you, with you and a loyal friend for life. As a caregiver, she was giving a mother's love with thoughtful advice helping those with some of life's greatest challenges and during some of their most difficult times. Her twinkling eyes, warm smile and gentle touch of kindness will be remembered by family and close friends. Rose is lovingly remembered by her husband, Robert, at home; daughter Rachelle Sorg and husband Keith, North Manchester, and their children Payton, Leah, Hallie and Madison; her father Loren Fry, Rochester; two sisters, Shirley Shubat and husband Jacob, Oak Park, Ill. and Helen Breidinger and husband Russ, Rochester; a brother John Fry and wife Marilyn, Rochester; and granddog Penny, a precious Heinz 57 custom blend. Preceding her in death with her mother are two children, Michael David and Dawn Marie, and brother Joe Fry. A celebration of the life of Mrs. Rose Marie Fry Wagoner is at 10 a.m. Monday in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with the Rev. Junior Bose and Dr. Mark Spencer officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. She will be laid to eternally rest on the Wagoner family plot in Rochester's IOOF Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Fulton County Cancer Society/NICF or the Hope Hospice.
