The Dallas Cowboys have lost one of their most loyal and devoted fans. Mr. Roger Dale Rudd, 54, of Rochester, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2015 at his residence. On June 18, 1960, Roger was a treasured son born to James G. and Thelma Jean Howard Rudd. Growing up as the youngest of four he shared his childhood with a sister and two brothers. Roger was the J. V. and varsity manger of both football and basketball teams during his years at RHS. He continued to help with those responsibilities beyond his high school years. With great Zebra pride, in 1979 he graduated with his class from Rochester High School. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Roger was loyal to America's football team, the Dallas Cowboys. For more than two decades, he and his Mom made an annual pilgrimage over Thanksgiving weekend, to Dallas to watch the Cowboys and cheer them to victory. He enjoyed watching the Cowboys cheerleaders and was quite comfy attired in his Dallas letter styled jacket or licensed sweats and ball cap. An avid Notre Dame fan Roger always watched their football and basketball teams. He also was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubbies. Left to cherish Rogers's memory are his mother, Thelma Rudd; two brothers: Larry Rudd and wife Josie, and Dennis Rudd all of Rochester; a niece, Laura Whitenight and husband Donn; a nephew, Joshua Rudd; and 3 great nieces and nephews: Dakota, Cherokee, and Cheyenne Whitenight; aunts and uncles: Eileen and John Davis, Dale and Sandy Rudd, Harold Howard, Paul and Phyllis Howard, Carl Howard, Ilene Howard; and several cousins. Preceding Roger in death are his father, James, on June 18, 2014 and his sister, Linda K. Rudd, on December 25, 1995, and his grandparents. Pastor Mike VanHeyningen will officiate services. Interment will be in the Athens Cemetery.
