Mr. Robert Warren Sixbey, 93, of Rochester passed away at 11:55 AM, Monday, January 20, 2014 at his residence. On November 24, 1920, in Madison, Bob was born a treasured son of Mark and Carrie Wales Sixbey. Growing up as one of five children, he shared his childhood with two sisters, Patsy and Donna, and two brothers, Dean and Joe. With great Indian pride in May of 1938, Bob graduated with his class from Kewanna High School. On December 28, 1940 in Frankfort, Bob married Doris M. Gilliland. Together they shared 63 years of life's adventures. Their union yielded two sons, Roger and Michael. World War II raged, and patriotism beckoned Bob. He answered the call and served our country with the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Bob was honorably discharged on June 4, 1946. Some of his decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, WW II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and a Bronze Service Star. As a loyal and devoted employee of Exide Corporation in Logansport, Bob retired in 1987 after 27 years of service. Doris and Bob enjoyed square dancing with Rochester's Swinging Dudes. Together they did custom upholstery for friends and special customers. Bob was at home in his shop restoring vintage cars to show room quality. He looked forward to solving the worlds problems with his coffee table buddies each afternoon at McDonalds. Bob was hooked on the grilled chicken McWrap with ranch dressing. To relax he watched Andy Griffith and the Big Bang Theory. Bob is survived by a son, Roger Sixbey, of Orlando, FL; a daughter-in-law Karen Sixbey of Rochester; 2 grandchildren: Cassie Bennington and husband Michael, Shannon Sixbey and wife Tanya; sister Patsy Evans of Kewanna; brother Dr. Dean Sixbey and wife Midge of Chili; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Bob in death are his parents, wife Doris on June 13, 2003, son Michael Sixbey, a sister Donna Leavell, and a brother Joseph Sixbey. Pastor Teri White will officiate services. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Fulton County Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Honor Guard at the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
