Obituary

Mr. Robert Newcomer, 75, of Rochester was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at his home at 2:00 a.m. on January 25, 2014. On June 7, 1938, Bob was born in Rochester, a treasured son of Robert Vernon and Margaret Lucile Hamman Newcomer. Growing up as the oldest of three children, he shared his childhood with a sister Janice and a little brother Rick. With great Zebra pride, Bob graduated with his Rochester High School Class in 1956. On May 6, 1960 in Mentone, Bob married the love of his life, Doris Evelyn Horn. Together they enjoyed over 53 years of life's adventures. Their union produced three daughters: Angela, Brenda, Sherri, and a son Tim. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. As an entrepreneur and businessman, Bob shared ownership with friends of the Talma Fastener Corporation. He was an accomplished photographer working for the Rochester Sentinel. Bob was known for his unique high school senior and family portraits, always capturing life's most memorable events. Later Bob and Randy Stutzman formed a company known as R & R Photography. Doris and Bob collaborated on many crafting projects including making Cardinal and Bluebird whirly-gigs. They once made an outdoor bench. An avid golfer, Bob enjoyed the challenges of Mill Creek. He also enjoyed stopping by his favorite fishing holes with his trusty fly rod. The catch of the day were "butter bellies," also known as blue gills. Bob also learned the art of jewelry making. Jewelry of the southwest that incorporated turquoise was his specialty. Traveling since 1999 in the fifth wheel, Doris and Bob took to the road visiting all but about five states. Their travels also included visits to Mexico, several provinces in Canada and a memorable trip thru the Canadian Rockies to Alaska. They were life members of the Sycamore Good Sams Club #13, and Chapter #51 of the Escapees. Their favorite destination was Yuma, Arizona where they wintered for many years. Bob is lovingly remembered by his three daughters: Angela Davis and husband Danny of Aurora, CO and their children Seth MacDonald, Sara Ramos, Rachel Ray, Jessica McDonald and Manuel Davis; Brenda Benzing and husband David of Rochester and their daughter Jacquelyn Davenport; Sherri Wagoner of Warsaw and her daughter Amy Kreft; a sister Janice Grass and husband Kermit of Lebanon, TN; and a brother Rick Newcomer and wife Claudia of Rochester. Preceding Bob in death are his parents, beloved wife Doris on August 10, 2013, and son Timothy Alan Newcomer in 1983. Rev. Jim Dillinger will officiate services. Bob will be laid to eternal rest next to his beloved wife Doris in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
