Mr. Robert L Holloway Sr. 89, of Rochester, passed away at 3:40 PM, Monday, March 14 , 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
On January 29 , 1927, Hugh Robert Lee Holloway was born in Rochester to Lee Roy and Lillie May Mikesell Holloway. As one of twelve children, he shared his childhood with eight sisters and three brothers.
Staff Sgt. Robert L. Holloway was honorably discharged from the US Army in 1947. He served as a MP and was a light tank crewman. During his two tours of duty, he spent 11 months in Japan and 17 months in Germany.
Robert and Vera Frances Shriver were married May 27 , 1948 in Wabash. They shared 54 years of life's blessings. Vera passed away on April 25 , 2002.
In 1981, after 31 years of service, Bob retired as a shipping clerk at Sealed Power. He worked as a security guard for 30 years at Rochester Metal Products. Managing the Northgate and Manitou Manor apartments kept Bob busy. He also enjoyed managing the Yacht Clubs in American Falls and Pocatello, Idaho.
Woodworking was a favorite pastime. Shelving and yard art, including Uncle Sam flag holders, were often gifts for family and special friends. He took great pride in mowing and manicuring his lawn.
Bob is lovingly survived by a daughter Gloria "Ann" Chapel of Kokomo; a son, Robbie "Opie" Holloway Jr. and wife Becky of Rochester; five grandchildren: Susan Meissnest and husband Kurt, Deanna Kay Johnson, Kimberly Sue Zellers, Chrystal Lyn Raderstorf, Robert Lee Holloway III; four great grandchildren: Branden Karl Johnson, Tori Lyn Raderstorf, Carly Rose Zellers, Kylie Frances Brook Johnson; a sister, Phyllis "Jean" Duzan of Warsaw; brother-in-law Glen Shriver of Rochester; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Robert in death are his parents; wife; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Carl Johnson; son-in-law, Larry Chapel; daughter-in-law, Lyn Holloway; and ten siblings.
Larry Mowrer will officiate services. Military rites will be conducted by the Fulton County Honor Guard and the US Army Honor Guard. Interment will be in the Akron Cemetery.
