Obituary

Mr. Richard "Dick" John Weiland, 79, formerly of Plymouth, passed away at the Life Care Center of Rochester at 7:20 p.m. Friday, February 10th. Richard was born on March 3, 1932 in Winamac from the union of Edwin and Marie O'Neal Weiland. Growing up he shared his childhood as one of six, with three sisters Rose, Loretta and Teresa, and two brothers Edward and Bernie. On March 3, 1992, First Sergeant (E8) Richard J. Weiland retired after 30 years of dedicated service with the Illinois National Guard, moving from Des Plaines, IL to Plymouth. He enjoyed woodworking, and a variety of handicraft projects which he displayed and sold at numerous craft shows around northern Indiana until his health prevented him from participating. Dick is lovingly remembered by his nieces: Ethel Posey and husband Howard of Arlington, TX, Rosie Miller and husband Raymond of Argos, Fran Houin of Plymouth, Michaelene Jordan and husband Brian, Vicksburg, Mich., and Denise DeMarco and husband Louis of Monee, IL; and his nephew Patrick Thomas and wife Joyce of Etna Green. He will be sadly missed by numerous great nieces, great nephews and many cousins. Dick was preceded in death by his three sisters Loretta Panek, Teresa Pucik, and Rosemary Drake; his brothers Bernard and Edward Weiland; and his lifetime partner Florence. Rev. Father Bert Woolson will officiate services. Military honors will be accorded by the Mantiou V.F.W. Post #1343 and the LeRoy Shelton American Legion Post #36. Burial will follow in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
