Mr. Richard Dale "Dick"  Smith Jr., 67, of Rochester passed away on Sunday, June 17 , 2018 at his residence.

On October 14 , 1950, Dick was born in Rochester to Richard Dale Sr. and Viola Mae Reeser Smith. Growing up he shared his childhood with two sisters.

In Rochester, Richard and Janelle A. Jones were married on November 30 , 1974.  From their union came two beautiful daughters Heather and Amanda.  The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of four wonderful grandchildren.

Dick worked at Lau Industry and as a professional truck driver specializing in the delivery of RV 's.  Many will remember him tending the bar at the American Legion and VFW Posts.  He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion.

An accomplished angler, Dick also owned and operated Vi's Bait Shop just off East 4th Street.  His favorite fishing holes were the Tippecanoe River, Lake Manitou and Lake Michigan.  Many great memories were made in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, fishing and playing cards till very late at night.  Dick enjoyed shuffleboard competition, playing cards especially euchre and poker.  To relax he enjoyed sci-fi and alien movies.

Left to cherish Dick's memory are his wife Janelle; two daughters: Heather Scott and husband Adam of Fort Wayne, and  Amanda Newcomer  and companion Jason Wiard of New Haven; four grandchildren: Isabella May Scott, Larissa Janelle Newcomer, Marcus Anthony Newcomer, Corbin Dale McQueary; a sister, Betty Lou Zoppe of Sarasota, FL; and a nephew, Mario Zoppe of Sarasota, FL

Preceding Richard in death are his parents Dick Sr. and Viola Mae Smith, and a sister, Viola Marie Smith in 1972.

Pastor Kerry O'Brien will officiate services. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
