Ross "Red" Holland,76, of 705 E. 4th St. Rochester, passed away at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at his residence. He was born on December 5, 1935 in Trenton, New Jersey. He was raised in Rochester by the Maria Zoppe family, performing in the circus with the Zoppes' Bareback Riding act and traveling all over the United States. He served in the US Army at Fort Benning, GA from 1958 - 1960 as a cook. He was employed by Ritz Craft in Argos, Rochester Homes, Rochester School Corporation and retired from the Fulton County Courthouse after 23 years of service. On June 5, 1966 Red and Martha "Marty" Marie Mowrer were married. Their union lasted nearly 46 years, and produced handsome twin sons. The family tree continued to grow with the addition of 5 grandchildren. Red was a member of the Eagles Lodge, American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a Rochester volunteer fireman for many years. Sports was his life with Notre Dame, Chicago Cubs and Chicago Blackhawks as his favored teams. He coached Little League baseball, played men's softball and bowled for many years at Quick Lanes. He golfed with a group from Rochester for nearly 20 years traveling to Valdosta, GA for their annual outing. But his favorite sport was watching his beloved grandchildren playing softball, baseball, basketball, and volleyball and traveling to watch their games. He had attended the Akron Church of God. Red will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Marty, at home; and twin sons, Andrew Holland and wife Carla and Anthony Scott Holland, all of Rochester; grandchildren: Rylee, Alexa, Alec, Cyrus, and Lexanne; a sister, Yolanda Zoppe of Dallas, TX; two brothers: Joe Zoppe of Dallas, TX, and Enrico Zoppe & wife Joan of Tularosa, NM; and his canine companions Spike, the Boston Terrier, and Patches, the miniature Beagle. Private services will be held. Burial will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
