Obituary

Phyllis Mae Hudkins, 66, Rochester, passed away Monday, June 6, 2011, at South Bend Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 4, 1944, in Fulton to Forrest and Gladys (Watkins) Bailey. She shared her childhood with three brothers and a sister. Phyllis co-owned and assisted in the daily operations of her family's business, J&S Sheet Metal. She later made many friends as a server at Maggie's Restaurant and the Paradise Plaza Truck Stop. A lover of country music, Phyllis enjoyed singing and was a proud member of the Merle Haggard Fan Club. She loved antiquing and collected depression glass and McCoy pottery. Snaring the buy of the day while garage saling was a great way to relax with friends. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, Manitou Moose Family Center. More recently, she enjoy the times she spent with her RSVP buddies at the senior center playing bingo, cards and dining with friends. Phyllis will always be remembered for her sense of humor and hearty laugh. Phyllis will be lovingly remembered by two daughters, Laura Stoner and husband Craig, South Bend, and Cathi Morrison and husband Joe, Rochester; two sons, John Hudkins and wife Shannon, Rochester, and Jason Hudkins and wife Amanda, Rochester; 14 grandchildren; sister Barbara Hall and husband Jerry, Logansport; and three brothers, Ernie Bailey and wife Nyna, Greensburg, Elmer Bailey, Mishawaka; and Ray Bailey, Rochester. She was preceded in death by her parents. A celebration of the life of Phyllis M. Hudkins is at 6 p.m. Friday in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester. Friends may visit with the family from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the St. Joseph County 4-H Scholarship Fund.
