Nancy L. Moore, 62, of Rochester passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday afternoon on September 19th. She is remembered for her excellence in education, providing a foundation of learning for her first grade students in the early years at Riddle Elementary and most recently at Columbia Elementary until her retirement from Rochester Community Schools in May of 2005, after 33 years as a dedicated classroom teacher. Born in Silver City New Mexico on January 15, 1950, Nancy was the the precious daughter of Calvin and Betty Lange Stutzman. Growing up she shared her childhood with a sister Sue and a brother Gary. As a youngster, her family moved to Nappanee. In 1968 Nancy graduated with great pride from Nappanee High School. She continued her studies with the dream of becoming an elementary school teacher at Bethel College, earning her bachelor of arts in elementary education. Later she attended classes at Ball State University earning her Master's degree in education. On December 27, 1980, Nancy married her best friend and lifelong companion John R. Moore at the Burton United Methodist Church. Their union of over 31 years produced two wonderful children, Kenny and Katie. As as a wife, mother and grandma, Nancy's world revolved around her family. Following retirement and her love for children, Nancy volunteered at Grace United Methodist Church Preschool Classes. Retirement brought on additional opportunities for travel. She and John enjoyed the special destinations of the Pacific North West, Washington, New Orleans, Arizona, and Cape Cod to name a few. Nancy was a collector of lighthouses, teapots, sheep and antique cookie cutters. A proud owner of a vast collection of cookbooks, Nancy especially was fond of church cookbooks. At home from her kitchen command post, she enjoyed trying out new recipes and preparing food for birthday celebrations and family holiday gatherings. Nancy also enjoyed decorating her home with a seasonal touch for the holidays and year round celebrations. Nancy will be lovingly remembered by her husband, John; a daughter, Katie Moore and fiancé Salvador Sanchez Jr.; a son, Kenny Moore and companion Casie Atkins of Rochester and grandson Aaron Lee, all of Rochester; her parents Calvin and Betty Stutzman of Nappanee; a sister, Sue Welch and husband Dale of Albuquerque NM; a brother Gary Stutzman and wife Kerry of Scottsdale, AZ; 3 brothers-in law: Jim Moore and wife Jane of Delphi, Joe Moore and wife Terry of Rochester, Jack Moore and wife Sandy of Mesa, AZ; as well as several nieces and nephews who also survive. Pastor Don Nunemaker will officiate services. Interment will be in the Richland Center IOOF Cemetery
