Obituary

Mrs. Nancy Ellen Baker, 88, of Rochester, passed away at 10:36 AM, Friday, December 6th, at Woodlawn Hospital. On February 26, 1925, Nancy was born in Athens to Hershel Leroy "Pete" and Mary Burnett Feece Sayger. As one of eleven children growing up during the depression years, she shared her childhood with three sisters and seven brothers. With great Bulldog pride, in May of 1943, Nancy graduated with her class from Fulton High School. Mr. Harry "Bud" Baker and Nancy Ellen Sayger were married on June 13, 1945 in Rochester. Together they shared 60 years of life's adventures. From their union came two wonderful sons, Bob and Rick. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of two grandsons Eric and Kevin. In earlier years Nancy and Bud planted a truck patch garden that consisted of a variety of vegetables including sweet corn, green beans and tomatoes. Each autumn brought on a bountiful harvest when she would can and freeze the produce. Home made ketchup was one of Nancy's custom creations. She is also remembered for her warm chocolate chip cookies fresh from the oven. More recently, Nancy enjoyed the challenges of word searches and crossword puzzles to help her keep mentally sharp. She was a member of the ladies' auxiliaries of Eagles and the American Legion. To relax she listened to country music, Hank Williams was one of her favorite artists. Nancy is lovingly remembered by two sons: Robert Baker and wife Laurie of Plymouth, and Rick Baker and wife Susan of Rochester; 2 grandsons: Eric Baker of Plymouth and Kevin Baker of Rochester; a sister, Laura Lewis and husband Jack of Rochester; a brother, Jack Sayger and wife Elnora of Rochester; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding Nancy in death are her parents, husband, 2 sisters: Willodean Collins, Maudie Coleman, and 6 brothers: Leroy, Maurice, Harry, Walter and twins Otis and Omer. Dr. Mark Spencer will officiate services. Interment will be in the Athens Hoover Cemetery.
