Mrs. Mildred L. "Mitzi" Conley, 89, of Rochester, passed away at 2:45 PM, Tuesday, August 13th, at Life Care Center of Rochester. On January 4, 1924, Mildred Louise Cochran was born in Whitley County to Andrew Benson and Lavina Adele Henderson Cochran. As one of nine children, she shared her childhood with 4 sisters and 4 brothers. Mitzi and Robert Lee Conley were married on March 24, 1951 in Plymouth. They enjoyed 35 years of life's adventures until his passing on January 22, 1987. Together they raised three wonderful children a daughter Beverly and two sons Sam and Danny. The family tree grew with the added blessings of three more generations adding 68 members to the family tree, quite an amazing legacy. At home, as a young lady she acquired a strong work ethic that she applied though out her life. Mitzi, a hard working woman enjoyed the tasks of a domestic engineer. Following her retirement from Hart-Schaffner-Marx in 1987, she continued as a professional seamstress making custom clothing and alterations. She also did ironings for her customers who soon became extended family. Her lawn was always manicured with perfection with splashes of flowers to enhance the color of the landscape. With great compassion for her friends, Mitzi was a care giver doing shopping, picked up meds and ran errands for some of her friends at Harts. An honorary member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Mitzi also was a member of the Eagles and the Manitou V.F. W. Ladies Auxiliary. During her younger years, she enjoyed a monthly outing, "Thunder Running," usually on Saturday afternoons. Saturday nights brought her to the dance floor enjoying some of the finest country-western bands around the area. Memorable travel highlights include her trip to Hawaii in 1970, celebrating the birth of her granddaughter. In 1998 she accompanied Sam and A.J. to Branson. Her favorite shows were country stars Mel Tillis and Mickey Gilley. She also dined at the Mickey Gilley Café. Her family brought her the greatest happiness and many special memories. Mitzi was proud to be the matriarch, overseeing five generations. Mitzi is lovingly remembered by a daughter, Beverly Geller of Rochester; two sons: Retired 1st Sergeant Samuel E. MacLain of Indianapolis, Danny J. Conley and wife Mary of Argos; 9 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 36 great great grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis Reed of Rochester and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Mitzi in death were her parents, husband, 2 grandsons: Chad Conley, and Shane MacLain, a great grandson Frederick C. Knauss Jr., 3 sisters: Margaret McCutcheon, Mary Shriver, Doris James, and 4 brothers: Francis Cochran, Ernest Cochran, Donald Cochran, and Chuck Cochran and a daughter-in-law A.J. MacLain on July 5, 2013 Pastor John Branch will officiate services. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
