Mr. Michael Lyn "Mike" Sixbey, 64, of Rochester, passed away at 4:54 AM, Wednesday, October 16, 2013. On October 12, 1949, Mike was born, a treasured son Robert W. and Doris M. Gilliland Sixbey. Growing up he shared his childhood with his brother Roger. Following his high school years he answered the call of duty and served our country with the United States Navy. In July of 2000, at Rochester's City Hall, Mike married the love of his life, Karen Pendley. Together they blended their families that included four daughters and two sons. Karen and Mike enjoyed catching the breeze as they rode his bittersweet colored Goldwing to Nashville, TN and Sturgis, SD among their favorite destinations. During many of their trips they camped roughing it, yet truly embracing nature under the starlit evening skies, sharing special moments by the campfire. With a lifelong passion for racing, Mike followed the NASCAR circuit. Favorite tracks included Bristol, Talladega and Daytona. As a young man he took Cassie and Shannon to the Speedway at Plymouth. They cheered while he engaged with speed in quest for a win! The summer of 2013, Mike relaxed while cruising around on his crimson, 2013 Yamaha 1300. Dedicated to Dragon ESP until his retirement, Mike was a respected welder and metal fabricator. With special abilities of handiness, Mike was at home in the garage doing an oil change, and engine work. There was never to steep of a challenge when a friend or family member needed help in the fix-it department. When it was time to fire-up the grill for family and friends, Mike took the heat while grilling delicious sizzling brats, burgers and steaks to perfection. He savored chocolate, Reeses Cups, Pepsi and the card game Rummy. He attended car shows admiring the restorative techniques of others.
