Michael David Shafer, age 57, of Rochester, Indiana passed away at 2:31 PM on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at his residence.  He had been in failing health for quite some time.

On February 21, 1962, Michael David Shafer was born in Los Angeles County, CA to Peter Stanton and Penni Lee Zilhaver Shafer. Growing up he shared his childhood with three brothers, Mark, Dan and Rob.  As a Zebra he enjoyed a stellar career as a member of the RHS men's golf team. In 1980, he graduated from Rochester High School.

For many years, Mike was the assistant golf professional at Pawley's Plantation & Golf Country Club in Pawley's Island, South Carolina.

Left to cherish Mike's memory are four children including twin daughters, Amanda Whaley and husband Pat of Lugoff, SC, Erin Phillips and husband Al of Walhalla, SC, a son Andrew Shafer and wife Andrea of Spartanburg, SC, and daughter Megan Kicklighter and husband Davie of West Columbia, SC; three brothers: Mark Shafer and wife Brenda of Bondurant, Iowa, Dan Shafer and wife Jenny, and Rob Shafer, all of Rochester; and the mother of his children, Lee Ann Wall, of Ridgeway, SC.

Preceding Mike in death are his parents Pete Shafer and Penni Davis.

A celebration of the life of Michael Shafer will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 29 , 2020 at the Faith Outreach Center, 1125 East 9 ^th St., Rochester. Mayor Ted Denton will officiate.  Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service.
