Mary Jane Mitchell, 89 of Rochester, passed away at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Life Care Center of Rochester. On March 5, 1925, Mary was born in Rochester to John and Bessie Smith Shireman. As one of 13 children, she shared her childhood with four sisters and eight brothers. Mary attended school in Rochester and Argos. During war time, Mary worked at the Kingsbury Ordnance Plant and later worked several years at Torin Manufacturing. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Rochester. In 1943, Mary and Chester Fish were married. He preceded her in death. Mary and Donald Mitchell were married in 1955. He also preceded her in death. Mary is lovingly remembered by two daughters: Linda Stevens and husband Bill of Punta Gorda, FL, and Lisa Bowles and husband Phil of Westfield; a son, Kerry Mitchell of Sapulpa, OK; 4 grandsons: Craig Stevens of Noblesville, Keith Stevens of Punta Gorda, FL, Brian Bowles and David Bowles, both of Westfield; great granddaughter Kaitlyn Stevens of Zimmer, MN; 2 sisters: Pat Hayden of Rochester, and Jean Ketchum of Orland; a brother, Charles "Skip" Shireman of Rochester; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Mary in death are her parents, husband, two sons, two sisters, and seven brothers. Pastor Lloyd Howard will officiate services. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
