Mrs. Mary Kay Meyer, 76, of Rochester, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away on Saturday, July 7th, at her home. Mary Kay Haskell was born in Lake County, IN on June 20, 1936, the precious daughter of Guy and Caroline Gerner Haskell. Following high school Mary Kay attended cosmetology school in Gary and later worked as a stylist in a Gary salon. On February 2, 1971, Mary Kay and George E. Meyer were married in Chicago. The union spanned over 41 years allowing them to enjoy many adventures in life. A baker with extraordinary creativity, Mary Kay, created over 100 custom wedding cakes. Her largest consumed the entire floor of her mini-van, covering two banquet tables that was topped with a fountain. She also made cakes for birthdays and confirmations and other family celebrations. She is also remembered for hosting holiday and family celebrations. From her kitchen command post she made homemade candy, bread pudding, German potato salad and dumpling's with sour kraut to name a few of her specialties. Enjoying the out of doors, Mary maintained some beautiful water ponds around her home, serving as the perfect habitat for the Koy. She enjoyed wood working, making furniture to crafts and knick-knacks. Flower arranging was another forte' using silks providing an aesthetic accompaniment to accent any room of the home. To relax she and her family enjoyed fishing trips to Kentucky Lake. Camping out and picnics at Lake Holiday in northwest Indiana hold many special memories. Mary is lovingly remembered by her husband, George, 2 daughters: Rhonda Moore & husband Dave of Rensselaer, Heidi Snyder & husband Eric of Red Bud, IL; 3 sons: Michael Foster & wife Chris of Rochester, Patrick Foster & wife Mary of Rochester, Donald Meyer & wife Kim of Rochester; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and her devoted canine companion Meme, a tan coated Imperial Shih-Tzu. She was preceded in death by her parents, several sisters and brothers and Cece, her loving black and white Shih-Tzu. The family wishes to express special thanks to the Hope Hospice Care team for their kindness, compassion and tender loving care conveyed to their loving wife and mother Mary Kay. Private family services for Mary Kay Meyer are on Monday, July 9, 2012 at the Good Family Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Richland Center IOOF Cemetery, northwest of Rochester. Chaplain Jason See will officiate.
