Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Neff Heckaman, 87, of 18770 Maple Road Argos, passed away Wednesday, December 7th, 2011 in Sebring, FL . Mary was born in Bourbon, on March 19, 1924, to Harry and Carrie Rizer Neff. Growing up she was one of four children, sharing her childhood with a sister Ruth and two brothers, Allen and Joseph. With great pride Mary graduated with the Bourbon High School class of 1942. On August 28, 1943, Mary and Roscoe "Pete" Heckaman were married in Burbank, CA. Their union of nearly seven decades produced two daughters. Sharon and Rosemary, and a son Mike. Over the years the family tree grew with the additions of eight grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. Partnering with Pete, Mary assisted with the dairy farming operations on their Marshall County Farm. She was also a member of the Green Township Homemakers Extension Club. They attended the Wesleyan United Methodist Church in Culver and the Calvary Church in Sebring. To relax, Mary was accomplished with a variety of styles of handiwork. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, crocheting and knitting, creating custom gifts of warmth for her family and special friends. When the cards were dealt, Mary enjoyed many spirited games of euchre. Cooking was her forte' but she is best remembered for her delicious sugar cookies. Traveling was enjoyed by both Pete and Mary. They once toured farms across Europe. Summer fun at a cabin, on the pristine lakes of Minnesota, fishing for blue gill provided a vacatioin escape for the family. For over 30 years the Heckamans enjoyed the warmth of the Florida sunshine, wintering at Sebring. Mary is survived by 2 daughters: Sharon DeMont & husband Ed of Plymouth, Rosemary Cullers & husband Ron of Mexico, IN; a son, Mike Heckaman & wife Jan of Argos; a brother Allen Neff of Sebring, FL; 8 grandchildren: Michael DeMont, Daniel DeMont & friend Karen Edwards, Christopher DeMont & wife Annie, David Cullers & wife Kathy, Christine Traub & husband Shawn, Carrie Bollenbacher & husband Max, Matthew Heckaman & wife Tiffany, Douglas Heckaman & wife Stephanie, and 22 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Ruth Sponseller and a brother, Joseph Neff. She will be laid to eternally rest at New Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth.
