Mrs. Marjorie Gibbons, 87, of Rochester, passed away Sunday, May 25th, at Life Care Center of Rochester. On May 2, 1927, Marjorie was born in Fulton County, a cherished daughter of John H. and Hazel Clay Waltz. As one of the seven Waltz children, growing up she shared her childhood with four sisters: Irene, Esther, Betty and Patsy, and two brothers, Richard and Byron. Sweethearts, Marjorie and Harold "Gibby" Gibbons were married on February 16, 1946. Together they shared over 62 years of life's adventures. From their union came two treasured sons, Devon and Donald, and a coveted grandson Austin. A dedicated employee of Hart-Schaffner-Marx for 27 years, Marjorie served her peers as union steward, retiring in 1991. She was also a member of the Culver V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, a Cub Scout Den mother, Rebekah Lodge and the Fulton County Historical Society. Serving as tour guide, Marjorie enjoyed being attired in traditional folk garb. Over the years the Gibbons' were known for their high yielding, aesthetically beautiful truck-patch garden covering nearly 1/4 of an acre at their home. Each summer and fall they harvested the bountiful produce sharing with family, friends and even passers-by. As an armchair athlete, Marjorie, was an I.U. basketball fan, especially during the Bobby Knight era. Each autumn she cheered for many collegiate football teams from around the Midwest. Marjorie rarely missed a Notre Dame girls basketball game. Always near her side as she relaxed in her easy chair was Peaches, one of many Boston Terriers owned and loved by the Gibbons family. Seated at the kitchen table, Marjorie was among the trio, with Gibby and Austin cleaning the catch of the day, usually the limit of blue gill, fresh from the icy waters of Lake Manitou. She then cooked the delicacies to perfection, creating a feast for the entire family to enjoy. Grandma is remembered as role model for her etiquette. A true lady who exemplified courtesy, as a guest she always had a gift in hand to bestow to the hostess of the day. Left to cherish Marjorie's memory are her two sons: Devon Gibbons and husband Chris Newell of Rochester; Don L. Gibbons and husband Walter Howard of San Francisco, CA; a grandson Austin Gibbons and wife Ashley of Rochester; a sister Irene Montague of Ft. Myers FL; two brothers: Richard Waltz and wife Karen and Byron Waltz and wife Sue, all of Rochester; and her precious canine companion Peaches, the Boston Terrier. Preceding Marjorie in death are her parents, beloved husband "Gibby" on December 7, 2008, and 3 sisters: Betty Fawley, Esther Hawk, and Patsy Waltz. Rev. Junior Bose will officiate services.
