Obituary

Marilyn A. Stretch, 85, of Rochester, passed away at 2:09 AM, Friday, January 4th, 2013 at Woodlawn Hospital. Marilyn was born in Graymont, IL on August 9, 1927, the precious daughter of Forrest and Clara Bowers Stretch. Growing up she shared her childhood with a brother and four sisters. A loyal and devoted member of Rochester's First Baptist Church, Marilyn was active in the Fellowship Guild and the adult choir. She was also a leader of the kitchen crews, active with hosting funeral dinners and fund raiser meals for the church. She is best remembered for her delicious deviled eggs. In earlier years she is remembered for the meticulous care of the colorful flower gardens that embraced her home. Only a few years back passers by marveled as she cruised on her walker around her gardens weeding and picking up errant leaves. Paramount in her life was her family. She loved being in their company all through the years. Playing on the floor with some of the toddler nieces and nephews, she was known as Grandma - Aunt Marilyn. A couple of the kids accompanied her on a memorable bus trip to Branson to see the amazing Rockettes. Her crocheted handiwork of detailed doillies and coasters were enjoyed by family and special friends. Marilyn loved watching the Notre Dame teams and the Colts play on television. Marilyn is lovingly remembered by a sister, Bonnie Townsend and husband Robert of Rochester; a brother-in-law Francis Carlson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents; 3 sisters: Lavonne Bailey, Willa Wagoner, and Martha Carlson; brother Louis Stretch; and 2 nephews: Ron Bailey and Wayne Wagoner. Pastor Mark Spencer, Ph.D. will officiate services. She will be laid to eternally rest on the family plot in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
