Mrs. Lorine Melissa Briney Morgan, 98, of Rochester, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed to her eternal heavenly home on Sunday morning, August 5, 2012 at Life Care Center of Rochester. Born in Rochester on December 10, 1913, Lorine Melissa was a twin to Irene, the precious daughters of Harry and Eva Redman Briney. Lorine was rooted near Tiosa, sharing her childhood with 2 other sisters, Beatrice and Geraldine, and two brothers, Harold and Gerald. She attended Richland Center High School and graduated with her class in 1932. On June 1, 1940 Lorine married her lifelong friend Donald Morgan. They enjoyed sharing life's adventures for over a half century. Their union produced two beautiful daughters, Karen and Marcia. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Soon after they married, Don served our country during World War II with the U.S. Navy. Lorine accompanied him to San Diego and San Francisco where she earned the title as "Rosie the Riveter." To earn this appointment, Lorine worked in both cities at airplane assembly plants riveting the fuselage with her trusty rivet gun. As a young mother, Lorine served as a 4-H leader with the Richland Center Cloddhoppers. She was a devoted member of the Tiosa Brethren Church serving on the Women's Mission Society. Lorine was also a member of the 31 Club. Each summer Don planted and harvested their garden. Lorine would can and freeze the bountiful harvest for the family's use over the winter. A professional seamstress, Lorine retired in 1975 from Hart-Schaffner-Marx after 20 years. She also did custom alterations from her home and created wedding dresses, and a number of prom formals. As a homemaker, mother and grandma, Lorine enjoyed overseeing 5 generations of her legacy. Her favorite times were hosting the celebrations at the holidays and making special birthday dinners, especially for her daughters. She was known for her crispy fried chicken, fruit pies, and lemon meringue pies. Ice box cookies and iced holiday cookies intricately decorated were her forte'. Her specialty was creating custom dinners for the guest of honor and other special requests from the grandchildren. Lorine will be lovingly remembered by two daughters, Karen Miller and Marcia Lahman both of Rochester; 8 grandchildren: Mindy Marrs, Ryan Lahman & wife Lori, Toby Green & wife Gordonna, Jamie Green & wife Kim, Roby Green, Adam Miller, Summer Zeider & husband Jason, Ryan Miller & wife Carey; 11 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, 1 brother: Gerald Briney of Rochester; brother-in-law Fred Brown of Rochester; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Gary Morgan, 2 son-in-laws, Michael "Mick" Lahman and Robert Miller; 4 sisters: infant Gertrude Briney, her twin, Irene Town, Beatrice Lewis, Geraldine Brown; and a brother Harold Briney. Pastor Mike VanHeyningen will officiate services. Lorine will be laid to eternal rest next to her beloved husband Don in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
