It was with great Zebra pride, in May of 1965, that he graduated with his class from Rochester High School. Following high school, patriotism beckoned and Lloyd answered the call, serving our country with the U.S. Air Force from 1966 - 1970. He attained the rank of Sergeant and earned the following accommodations: National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. In Rochester, Lloyd and Susan "Boomer" Bowman were united in marriage on February 19, 1994. Together they shared over 20 years of life's adventures. As a heavy equipment operator, Lloyd worked for Rock Industries in Peru for a number of years. During this time he was a member of the Midwest Operating Engineer Union #150. He also worked at Gilliland Automotive and Wilson Coal and Grain, retiring in 2009. In his early years, Lloyd was an accomplished golfer. He spent many good times at area golf courses with his golfing buddies Bobby Galloway, Kerry Daine and David Cumberland. He was also an avid bowler. As an outdoorsman, Lloyd enjoyed ice fishing during the winter season, but in late spring hit the sparkling waters of Lake Manitou with his casting rod. He also enjoyed returning to Arkansas for trout fishing expeditions. Always intrigued with speed, Lloyd loved watching the drag races at the Bunker Hill Drag Strip. He loved all types of fast cars and once owned a Corvette. He was quite comfortable in his garage shop where he completed many custom woodworking projects for family and friends. Keeping mentally sharp he enjoyed the challenges of crossword and word search puzzles. When football season rolled around, Lloyd enjoyed cheering for "Da Bears!" He and Boomer enjoyed the camaraderie and hanging out with friends at the V, Eagles and American Legion.
