Liale Wolford Schwenk, 84, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014, at home. Liale was born April 2, 1930 in Argos, Indiana, the daughter of Maryanna Charlotte and George LeRoy Wolford. She grew up in Tiosa, Indiana and graduated from Richland Center High School in 1948. She married her high school sweetheart, George Maurice Schwenk on August 20, 1949 and they lived on the Schwenk family farm all their lives. Liale and George were the parents of four children: George (Evelyn) of Plymouth IN; Debra (Jim) Chase of Milford MI and Rochester IN; Tom (Charlotte) of Rochester; and Lori (Tim) Price of Mishawaka IN. Liale's husband George preceded her in death January 18, 1999. The children survive, along with eight grandchildren: Kellee (Richard) Skaggs, George C. (Kathleen) Schwenk, Eric (Lindahl) Chase, Brock (Tasha) Schwenk, Abigail Schwenk, Scott Chase, Sarah Price and Michael Price; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Roy Wolford of Rochester, and many nieces and nephews. Liale was a loving wife and mother who wanted the best for her family. She was a beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews, too. And she was a good friend to many--she would visit friends when they were sick, taking them to appointments or just spending time with them. Liale worked hard on the family farm. Whether she was gathering eggs, taking George and Tom to the fields, or running to town to get parts, she was always there to help. She rarely sat down and was always busy with something. She instilled this work ethic in her children. She loved to garden; planting her favorites--green beans, tomatoes and zucchini. She also enjoyed the annual family tradition of freezing sweet corn in the late summer, which has now become a party that includes all four generations. She would pack away hundreds of quart bags of corn, and still today there probably is a bag in the freezer that she processed. Liale and George's favorite pastime was fishing. They would spend vacation time nearly every summer in Minnesota catching northern pike, bass and walleye. After retirement, they spent winters in Okeechobee, Florida where they met up with friends from Fulton County and fished some more. She also enjoyed playing euchre and canasta with friends. Liale was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She helped with many, many funeral dinners over the years! Lori says that her Mom once told her that Dad rode one of his white horses to her house to ask her out...a prince on a white horse...what a fairy tale! Visitation will be Thursday, December 18 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th Street, Rochester. Rosary prayers will be offered at 7:30 p.m. On Friday morning, December 19, there will be visitation from 9:00 to 9:40 a.m. at Good Family Funeral Home, followed by celebration of mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1310 Main Street, Rochester. Burial will follow in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the George M. and Liale W. Schwenk Memorial Scholarship Fund, thru the Northern Indiana Community Foundation, 715 Main Street, Rochester IN. The world has lost a kind, generous, selfless, and loving wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, and friend. We'll miss you, our dear Liale.
