Kerry Wayne Daine, 63, of 1264-E Lakeshore Drive, Akron (Rock Lake) was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at the home of his daughter, Wendy Keith, early Wednesday morning. He was born in Rochester, on September 9, 1947, to Cleotis and Ruth Groninger Daine. Growing up he shared his childhood with two brothers, Mark and Larry, and a sister Connie. Kerry was a proud Warrior, graduating in the class of 1965 from North Miami High School. Following high school Kerry served our country as a member of the Army National Guard. During his six year stint he was stationed in Panama, training as a paratrooper and a missions specialist. With an appetite for speed, Kerry enjoyed drag racing at the Bunker Hill Speedway Drag Strip.A master mechanic he tweaked the engine, maximizing the performance. He also was a valuable member of Bob Horn's dragsters team pit crew. Kerry's pride and joy was his legendary 1966 Chevy Chevelle, that he proudly owned till his passing. More recently his racing interests turned to NASCAR. #48 Jimmy Johnson was his favorite driver. As an armchair quarterback, Kerry cheered for Notre Dame, Da' Bears, and the Cubs. Relaxing at home he listened to the Beetles, CCR and Don McLean. Many times recently his loyal canine companion Charlie comforted him while they shared a favorite chair. A gifted athlete, Kerry enjoyed all sports, from bowling to baseball, racing to golf. Hitting the links at Mill Creek or the Elks courses, he boasted a 2 stroke handicap, driving with power and putting with finesse'. Kerry treasured the friendship and camaraderie of his buddies Don, Dave, Randy and Bobby. They spent many good times competing on the golf course or seated at the card tables playing spirited games of Texas Holdem' or rummy. Kerry's memberships include the Amercian Legion Post # 0402 of Laketon, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, VFW Post # 1343, and the Elks Lodge # 2120 all of Rochester. Kerry will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Wendy Keith and husband Scott of Deedsville; a brother, Larry Daine and wife Jennifer of Macy; life long friend, Patsy "Pat" Hunter Rowe, Peru; two grandsons, Garrett Scott Keith and Hunter Nelson Keither; niece, Dawn Buman and her daughters Sierra, Zoey, and Blayklee; special cousin, Francie Daine of Florida; feline companion, Roxy, a domestic long hair; canine companion, Charlie, a black lab; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Connie Daine in 2007, a brother Mark Daine in 1990, and several aunts and uncles. A celebration of the life of Kerry Daine will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 27, 2011 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester. Chaplain Steve Fleck will officiate. Friends may visit with his family from 10-2 on Saturday. Military rites will be accorded by the Leroy Shelton American Legion #36 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars #1343.
