Obituary

Karen Ann Deckys, 79, of Rochester was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away in the early morning hours of August 4, 2025.

In Chicago on October 9, 1945, Karen Ann Kroc was born.  She was a treasured daughter of Charles and Pearl Tessmer Hovorka. Growing up she shared her childhood with two brothers Chuck and Jim.  She graduated from Chicago's Gage High School with the class of 1963.

On June 3, 1967, Karen married the love of her life, Mr. Albert "Al" Robert Deckys  in Chicago. Together they shared over 58 years of life's adventures. From their union came 3 wonderful children.  The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of 2 more generations.

Living near Warsaw for many years  Karen worked at  E.H. Tepe's  managing the office.  More recently was the office manager for Builder's Mart.

An avid reader Karen especially loved the books authored by Stephen King and Dean Koontz.  She was a crafter by nature, always creating gifts of warmth by crocheting.  Karen crafted many home decor accent pieces for special friends and family.  Paramount in her life was her family.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her family at the holidays and special family celebrations.

Karen is lovingly remembered by her husband Al at home; two daughters: Debbie (Brad) Hren of Wintergarden, FL, Laura (Kevin) Hazlett of Rochester; 6 grandchildren: Lauren Hren, Bryce Hren, Spencer (Margaux) Hren, Amanda Hazlett, Katelyn (Tyler) Crohn, Steven Newton and Kayden Deckys; a brother, Chuck (Pat) Hovorka of Phoenix; and her canine companions Charlie the Lady German Shepherd and Bailey the tea cup golden poodle.

Preceding her in death are her parents, son Robert Deckys, grandson Kaleb Hazlett and brother Jim Kroc and his wife Helen.
