Joyce Elaine Hubbard, 58, of Rochester, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed from her Earthly life to our Heavens at 8:19 PM, Tuesday, May 28th, at Hickory Creek at Rochester. Born in Rochester on June 16, 1954, Joyce Elaine Crissinger was the precious daughter of Lavon and Betty Nichols Crissinger. Growing up she shared her childhood with four sisters and two brothers. With great Bulldog pride, in 1972 she graduated with her class from Mentone High School. On February 10, 1973, Joyce Elaine married the love of her life, who later became her best friend, James Charles Hubbard. Together they raised two wonderful daughters, Melanie and Lisa, while sharing over 40 years of life's adventures. Working outside home, Joyce began her career at Harts-Schaffner-Marx. Later she worked for Mike Curran at the American States Insurance office. Until her health declined she worked in the office of our prosecuting attorney. Joyce was also a loyal and devoted member of the Rochester 1st Church of God. An accomplished folk artist, Joyce used acrylics to paint on a variety of items from milk cans, wood, to pods of the milk weed. Custom gifts were shared with her family and special friends. Joyce's favorite themes were Christmas, snowmen and Santa Claus. She delved into still life with great detail and a meticulous brush depicting subjects like the Fulton County Courthouse. Her works were displayed at many craft shows around northern Indiana and her parents store on north Main street known as the Christmas Hut. At home, Joyce decorated with country accents. She was proud owner of a unique collection of roosters. She and Jim annually planted the garden. Each fall they enjoyed a bountiful harvest. Joyce is known for her crisp dill pickles, the perfect topping for a sizzling hot hamburger fresh off the grill. For many years Joyce and Jim climbed aboard their shiny Honda Goldwing for day trips or to extend the weekend to favorite destinations of Tennessee, Ohio and Kentucky. There was nothing more relaxing than experiencing the freedom on the bike while touring, and catching the warm breeze on a sunny summer day. She and Jim also shared a love for speed---and racing. They took their girls many weekends to Plymouth and Anderson to enjoy the oval short tracks. The Indy 500 was an annual event as was attending the World Outlaw Sprint Cars Circuit races, especially at the Terra Haute track. Remembered for her twinkling eyes, warm smile and positive attitude, Joyce persevered as a role model for all of those her surrounded her. She illustrated what it is like to have true love and faith in God. Joyce was patient and remained radiant with her love for her family, friends and especially her Hickory Creek Family. Paramount in her life was daughters Melanie and Lisa and her grandchildren. Their visits always lit up the room. Staying in touch with friends, Joyce spent time at her computer. She was an avid Facebooker and enjoyed email. One of her favorite games was solitaire. She especially appreciated the friendship of her room mate Pat Ginther. The family of Joyce, wish to express their sincere thanks to their Hickory Creek family for the love, support and care given over the past 12 years. You are true angels that have become family. Joyce is lovingly remembered by her husband Jim; two daughters: Melanie Hubbard Leininger and fiancé Paul Welch and their children: Madelon Mary-Anne Leinninger, Zachary Welch & Kaitlynn Welch of Indianapolis, Lisa Hubbard Frye and husband Nate and their children: Tristan James Frye, Ethan Frye, Elise Frye of Winona Lake; parents: Lavon and Betty Crissinger of Rochester, mother-in-law: Nina Hubbard of Rochester; four sisters, Vickie Miller of Rochester , Carol Baker of Rochester, Cindy Tilden and husband Scott of Akron, Kathy Schnitz and companion Roll Inks of Plymouth; two brothers: Jeff Crissinger , Terry Crissinger and wife Sandy all of Rochester; a sister-in-law: Vicki Winchester and husband LeRoy of New Haven, Joyce is lovingly remembered by her husband Jim; two daughters: Melanie Hubbard Leininger and fiance Paul Welch and their children Madelon Mary-Anne Leinninger, Zachary Welch & Kaitlynn Welch of Indianapolis, and Lisa Hubbard Frye and husband Nate and their children: Tristan James Frye, Ethan Frye, Elise Frye of Winona Lake; parents Lavon and Betty Crissinger of Rochester; mother-in-law Nina Hubbard of Rochester; four sisters: Vickie Miller of Rochester, Carol Baker of Rochester, Cindy Tilden and husband Scott of Akron, Kathy Schnitz and companion Roll Inks of Plymouth; two brothers: Jeff Crissinger of Rochester, Terry Crissinger and wife Sandy of Rochester; a sister-in-law Vicki Winchester and husband LeRoy of New Haven; and her loyal room mate, Pat Ginther. Pastor Greg Wolfe will officiate services. She will be laid to eternal rest in the family plot at the Reichter Cemetery, located in Newcastle Township NE of Rochester.
