Mr. Joseph Richard Morris, 74, of 302 Jefferson St. Rochester, was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at 6:00 AM on Friday, March 9, 2012 , at his residence. Joe was born in Rochester, on June 22, 1937, the son of Wallace and Susie Davis Morris. Growing up he shared his childhood with three sisters: Marilyn, Frances and Donna Jean; and a brother Red. On December 21, 1961 Joe married his best friend and the love of his life, Sharon O'Connell, in Niles, Michigan. This past December they celebrated their golden anniversary. Their union produced 3 beautiful daughters. Through the years 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren were added to the family tree. Retiring after 37 1/2 years of dedicated service from the Chrysler Transmission Plant of Kokomo, Joe transitioned to more leisurely activities. In his free time, he enjoyed following Notre Dame and Indiana University football and basketball. He especially enjoyed tracking I.U. during the Bobby Knight era. An avid outdoorsman, Joe embraced nature and deer hunting, always looking to bag the trophy of the season. Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sharon, at home; 3 daughters: Kathleen Dooley & husband Freddie of Young America, Shirley Smith & husband Jeff of Rochester, Christine Freet & husband Rob of Rochester; 8 grandchildren: Jennifer Holloway & husband Mark of Rochester, Leah Correll of China, Joe Correll, Myranda Glant, Sara Spence, Shawn Freet, and twins Craig Freet & Cory Freet, all of Rochester & 5 great grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Halterman & husband George of Rochester; several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Frances Baker, Donna Jean Olinger and a brother Clifford "Red" Morris. He will be laid to rest in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
