Born: March 27 ,1936 to Mayme (Bryan) Howkinson d. 1938 and Richard Howkinson d. 1993. Step mother; Mary (Finney) Howkinson d. 2009. Brother: Jim Howkinson d. 2005. Sister Jill Howkinson d. 1943; Sister Jan (Howkinson) Arnott and Jon both surviving

1954: Ran a 56 second quarter mile. Received the Staggs Award for Monticello High School's Most Outstanding Athlete. High School Graduation

1954- 1957: United States Marine Corps.

1957: Wedded Barbara (Sparks) Howkinson survives

1958: daughter Mary Beth (Howkinson) Fox; and Jimmy Fox m. 1993 both surviving, Caryville, TN

1960: son Mark and Penny (Dewitt) Howkinson m.1983. Grandchildren, Amelya, Tyler, Adrian, Gabriella, all surviving

1961 – 1998: Teacher Rochester High School. State recognition for athletic coaching 25 years plus.

1962: Member Grace United Methodist Church; serving as a Sunday School teacher and lay leader

1963- 1982: Installed 132 swimming pools with best friend and fellow teacher Simon Deeb.

1966: Founding and lifelong board member of First Federal Savings Bank.

1968 – 2005: Husbandry to his small Angus cow herd

1968-2014 Traveled to 127 foreign countries

1974: Member of the Rochester Huddle of the Fellowship of Christian athletes

1992: Member Rochester Lions club serving a term as president and in 2013 receiving the Melvin Jones Fellow Award

A celebration of the life of Mr. John Howkinson will be Friday, February 26th at 10:00 a.m. in the Grace United Methodist Church at 201 West 7th Street, Rochester.  Pastor Kerry O'Brien will officiate. The Rochester Lion's Club will hold a Memorial Service for Lion John at 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening.
