Jo Ann
Randall
Nov 14, 1941 — Jul 30, 2026
Jo Ann Randall, 84, of Rochester passed away in the early morning hours on July 30, 2026, at Hickory Creek at Rochester. She was surrounded by her loving family.
On November 14, 1941, Jo Ann was born to John Wesley and Mildred Rose Brooker Hickman in Pulaski County, Indiana. Growing up, she shared her childhood with her sister, Billie.
On May 31, 1959, Jo Ann was married to Gene R. Grogg in Rochester. Together, they shared the blessing of raising their three wonderful children, Christy, Marci and David. Sadly, Gene passed away on July 21, 1996, following an 18-month illness. Jo Ann was not left alone following Gene’s passing, however. On December 1, 1998, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Jo Ann was joined in marriage to William “Bill” Randall and together they shared many joys and adventures until Bill’s recent death on April 7, 2026.
Jo Ann will be remembered by many for her many years of service with of the Rochester Community School Corporation for 34 years, retiring in 2000. Outside of her working career, Jo Ann was an avid follower of the IU and Purdue basketball teams, as well as Notre Dame football. If it wasn’t game day, it was time to work in the yard or tend to her flower gardens and her vegetable garden. Jo Ann will be most remembered for her stellar culinary skills, especially her delicious pies in the most requested flavors – peach, cherry, sugar cream and pecan. It’s been long remembered that her husband, Gene, paid $50 for Jo Ann to take a class many years ago to learn the preparations of Chinese food. Gene said it was the best $50 he ever spent! Whatever the day would bring, Jo Ann’s faithful companion – Sam, the Great Pyrenees- was always by her side.
Left to cherish Jo Ann's memory are her daughters, Christy Grogg of Rochester and Marci (Mark) Long of Grass Creek; a son, David (Kathy) Grogg of Warsaw; 6 grandchildren, Derek (Ali) Grogg, Aaron Grogg, Kipp (Ashley) Long, Evan (Megan) Long, Kiki (Brent) Liggett, McKinsey Palmer; 11 great-grandchildren, with another on the way in October 2026.
Preceding Jo Ann in death are her parents, husbands Gene and Bill, and her sister, Billie Gamble.
Graveside services celebrating Jo Ann's life will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, August 5, 2026 in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery with Chaplain Teri White officiating.
