Obituary

Jimmie Ruth Malott, 73, of Delphi, passed away on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at the University of Chicago Medical Center. Born on March 23, 1941, in West Blocton, Ala., Jimmie Ruth was the precious daughter of Robert James and Jewell Coe Townsend. In 1959 with great pride she graduated from Horace Mann High School in Gary. On July 11, 1959 in Valparaiso, Jimmie Ruth married Roscoe H. Malott. From their union came two daughters, Lisa and Teresa, and three sons, Richard, James and Christopher. Later, their official journey in life together ended, but they remained lifelong friends. In 2003 Jimmie Ruth retired from Lau Industries. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and attended Faith Outreach Center and Calvary Temple of South Bend. Enjoying scrapbooking, she created a beautiful custom album for each family member. Fishing? Oh, yes, she trolled the waters of Lake 16, Manitou at the Dam, the Woodlawn Hospital Pond, Grass Creek Pond, and Fish-in-Fun on the shores of the Tippecanoe River. On the banks she stood with her trusty casting rod, reeling in catfish, blue gill and bass. She once pursued a huge catfish that managed to elude her for nearly two weeks. Jimmie Ruth persevered and with great pride landed the catch of the day following a big fight with her line. A lover of feline companions, she shared her home with Toby, Brat, Little Man, Morris, Turbo, Tigger, Jaime, and Charo they were all of the species Hemingway or Minx. Among all of these felines was her devoted canine companions "King" and "Dude," Newfoundlands, who passed over Rainbow Bridge. Left to cherish Jimmie's memory are a daughter Lisa Brown and companion Owen Ophein of Delphi; three sons: Richard Malott and wife Pamela of Woodstock, Ala., James Malott and wife Linda of Sheridan, and Christopher Malott of Rochester; lifelong friend Roscoe Malott and wife Tina of Rochester; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Teresa J. Austin on Feb. 10, 2013, brother Jerry Townsend on May 31, 2010 and her canine companions "King" and "Dude." Interment will be in Rochester's IOOF Cemetery.
