Mrs. Jeane Nelson 81, of Culver was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 3:40 a.m. on April 27, 2014 at the Stuart F Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast, FL. Born in Fordsville, Kentucky on August 8, 1932, Emily Jeane Briggs was the cherished daughter of Burl and Elsie Prowse Briggs. The family moved during Jeane's childhood and with great pride, she graduated in May of 1950 from West High School near Plymouth. In the summer of 1950, Jeane was crowned as Marshall County's first 4-H queen. She later attended Ancilla College. Wendell W. Nelson married the love of his life Jeane Briggs on July 23, 1950 in the Argos Congregational Church. Together they shared over 59 years of life's adventures. From their union came four daughters Wendy, Judy, Shirley and Tracey and a son Terry. The family tree grew over the years with the added blessings of seven grandchildren. Paramount in Jeane's life was her family. She thoroughly enjoyed motherhood and as time passed and the family tree grew, Grandma Jeane was always there for her grandchildren. In addition Jeane served the Indiana Department of Education as compliance supervisor for the cafeteria program. Many will remember her friendly welcome to the customer's of Culver's Hook's/CVS for over 17 years. For numerous years she served Marshall County Democrats as a precinct committeeman. Left to cherish Jeane's memory are four daughters: Wendy Nelson, of Kokomo; Judy Heliste and husband Richard of Bonita Springs, FL ; Shirley Nelson-Ford and husband Michael of Vernon Hills, IL; Tracey Morris and husband David of Palm Coast, FL: a son, Terry Nelson, of Argos; 7 grandchildren: Kalen and Drew Heliste, Tyler Nelson, Matthew and Marcus Morris, William and Jonathon Ford; and 5 nieces and 2 nephews. Preceding Jean in death are her parents and beloved husband Wendell on October 14, 2009. A celebration of the life of Mrs. Emily Jeane Nelson will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Chapel of New Oak Hill Cemetery in Plymouth. Pastor Steven Sherwood will officiate. Friends will be received by her family an hour prior to services. Entombment will follow. Memorials may be made to the Marshall County 4-H Fair General Fund.
