Mrs. Jannavee "Jan" Rudd, 84, of Rochester, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 12:58 PM, Monday, May 12th, at Woodlawn Hospital. On November 25, 1929, in Floyd County, Kentucky, Jannavee "Jan" Patton was a cherished daughter born to Jeff R. and Gracie Flannery Patton. As one of 5 children, she shared her childhood with 3 sisters: Becky, Virgie, Nell, and a brother Mart. Charles Louis Rudd Jr. married the love of his life, Jan Patton Rudd, on June 1, 1946 in Rochester. They shared 64 1/2 years of life's adventures. Together they raised three wonderful sons: Bob, Gene and Nicky Joe. Over the years the family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of seven grandchildren. Two other generations have since been added to the family tree. An avid reader, Jan was the proud owner of a vast library on a variety of topics. A lifelong learner, she was known to read everything between two covers. Each year she planted beautiful gardens around her home to enhance the color of the landscape. Perennials, lilacs and peonies were among her favorites. A nature buff Jan enjoyed feeding and observing birds common to Indiana and the amazing hummingbird gave her the greatest joy. Of course her favorite candy is chocolate truffles. A gifted lady who loved working with her hands, Jan could do drywall, plumbing, moving doors adding walls never allowing a dull moment to occur. She was quite a home using the saw, nails, wrenches and the hammer. Usually her projects were of a surprise in nature and timeliness was everything, occurring just before a holiday. Her gift of handiness was conveyed to Bob and Gene. She oversaw their adventures, during their formative years, in carpentry building a chassis mounted camper that she and the boys took vacationing around the Midwest, to Florida and once to California. They once built Kayaks made to scale so that they could bring them up from their basement workshop thru the hopper window. Whenever they dreamed, Mom stood by them making it happen checking their measurements and making memories! Left to cherish her Jan's memory are two sons: Roy Gene Rudd and wife Lucinda of Rochester; Robert Lee "Bob" Rudd and wife Karen of Akron; 7 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and a great-great-grandson; 2 sisters: Virgie Gregory of Rochester, Nell Kuncle of Mattoon, Illinois, and a sister-in-law Janet "Net" Patton of Argos. Preceding Jan in death are her parents, beloved husband Charles on December 20, 2010 and a son Nicky Joe Rudd in 2003, a sister Becky Garrison and a brother Mart. Rev. Junior Bose will officiate services.
