Obituary

Janet Marie Long, 45, of Rochester, passed away at 7:18 PM, Thursday, May 1st, at Parkview Hospital of Fort Wayne, due to injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident on Indiana State Road 25 and 600 South. On July 27, 1968, Janet was born in Wabash to David and Rita Hartleroad Long. As one of seven children, growing up she shared her childhood with three sisters Pam, Sherry and Brenda and three brothers Pat, Jay and Harold. A master of mixology, Janet was known to create the perfect blended drinks. For nearly two decades she worked at Leiter's Ford Tavern. More recently she served customers at the Fulton Pub. Known to many outdoor enthusiasts and canoeing pals as, "The Queen of the Tippecanoe," Janet looked forward to the adventure of floating the Tippecanoe with friends and family several times annually. Intrigued by speed, she loved the freedom of riding, while catching a warm summer breeze on Harley - Davidson motorcycles. Janet owned a unique collection of cherubs. Most important in her life was her family. She and Tommy looked forward to the visit and adventures with their grandchildren and the many loving memories they made, sharing good times. Left to cherish Janet's memory are her daughter Hannah Gonzalez and husband Omar of Rochester; husband Tommy Hathaway of Rochester; her father David Long; two sisters: Pam Danner and husband Bill of Ft. Myers, and Sherry Sterling and husband Bob of Peru; three brothers: Pat Long of Kewanna; Jay Hartleroad and wife Carol of North Manchester; Harold Bouthot and wife Lori of Peru; 4 grandchildren: Adalyn Marie, Jordan Edgar, Deangelo Omar, Mariah Esther and another to arrive in November; several nieces and nephews also survive. Preceding Janet in death are her mother and sister Brenda Hartleroad who passed away in 2013. Janet will be laid to eternal rest at Rochester's Citizen's Cemetery.
