Obituary

Mr. James Garland Rudd, 84, of Rochester, passed away at 12:51 AM, Wednesday, June 18th, at Woodlawn Hospital. On April 29, 1930, Jim was born in Morgan, Kentucky a treasured son of Charles L. Sr. and Ethel M. Hurt Rudd. As one of five children, growing up he shared his childhood with a sister Verda and three brothers Dale, Cecil and Charles Jr. In Rochester, at the 1st Christian Church, Jim and Thelma Jean Howard were married on May 8, 1949. Together they shared over 65 years of life's adventures. From their union came a daughter Linda and three sons Roger, Larry and Dennis. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of two grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. As a young man Jim's work ethic was developed on the farm. He possessed a lifelong love and appreciation for agriculture. In his early years he bred and raised 4 - H cattle Herefords and was one of the first in the area to raise Charolaise. The farming operation included soy beans and corn. Annually each spring, Jim planted a huge truck patch garden. He shared the bountiful harvest with family, friends and neighbors. Thelma would can and freeze the produce for their family's winter use. In addition to farming Jim also worked stints over his career at Amana Freezer, Nickle's Bakery, The Rochester Sentinel and R.R. Donnelly. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Masonic Lodge and the Shrine Club. Left to cherish Jim's memory are his wife Thelma; three sons: Roger Rudd, Larry Rudd and wife Josie and Dennis Rudd, all of Rochester; 2 grandchildren: Laura Whitenight, Joshua Rudd; 3 great grandchildren: Dakota, Cherokee and Cheyenne Whitenight; a brother: Dale Rudd and wife Sandy of WA; sister-in-law: Eileen Davis and husband John; 3 brothers-in-law: Harold Howard, Paul Howard and wife Phyllis and Carl Howard, all of Rochester. Preceding Jim in death are his parents, a daughter Linda K. Rudd on December 25, 1995, a sister Verda Perkins, and two brothers, Cecil Rudd and Charles Rudd Jr. Pastor Mike VanHeyningen will officiate services. Interment will be in the Athens Cemetery.
