Mr. James C. Ramsey, 78, 1394 S. 575 East, passed away at 3:50 p.m. Sunday at his residence. He was born in Miami County on March 8, 1933, to Verlin A. and Mabelle Ruth (Hartzler) Ramsey. Jim shared his childhood with siblings John, Chuck and Eloise growing up on the family farm. On the farm, they grew grain and raised livestock. It was at this time that he developed his love of farming and solid work ethic. Jim was a workaholic, and a man of perpetual motion. He ventured into business with Louie Overlander establishing O&R Buildings, Akron, which he later sold to his brother, John. Jim then established Ramsey Building Services, Akron, and built grain bins and grain storage systems. Jim retired in 2001 and was a lifetime resident of the Akron and Gilead communities. Jim was married to Connie Jo (Singpiel) Ramsey, and they had nine children. Their children are: Ardella Slavens and husband Charles, Chalmers; Thomas Ramsey (deceased); Donald Ramsey and wife Beth, Rochester; Carolyn Gray and husband Gary, Rochester; Raymond Ramsey (deceased); Bill Ramsey and wife Sherrie, Akron; Connie Joann Rutherford, Rochester; Jimmy Ramsey and wife Dawn, Bronson, Mich.; and Kathryn "Katie" Campbell and husband Kenny, Akron. Jim will lovingly be remembered by his companion of 27 years, Mary K. Hopkins, at home; daughter Pam (Hopkins) Lanting and husband Rick, Milwaukee, Wis.; and son David Hopkins, Akron. Jim had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Verlin and Mabelle Ramsey; two sons, Thomas Ramsey Raymond Ramsey; granddaughter Amanda Ramsey; sister- and brother-in-law Eloise and Al Hoehn; and sister-in-law Midge Ramsey. Private family services will be held at a later date. The Good Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the services.
