Mr. James Samuel Hicks, 74 of Rochester, passed away at 3:30 AM on Wednesday, November 29 , 2017 at his residence.

On October 5 , 1943, James was born in Helen, Arkansas to James S. and Ethel May Clark Hicks.  Growing up he shared his childhood with three brothers.

James and Jana Lee Greer were married on April 21 , 2000 by Rev. James Kelly. They have shared 17 years of life's adventures.  A favorite activity to relax is spending time in his woodshop building custom treasure chests.  James also loved to mow and manicure the landscape of his home.  He always planted a beautiful vegetable garden each spring, sharing the bountiful harvest with family and special friends.

Left to cherish the memories of James are his wife, Jana; four daughters:  twins Suzette Hicks-Mitchell of Chicago, and Chiquita Hicks-Avent and husband Thurman of North Carolina, Faye Hicks of Georgia, Angela Hicks-Harvey and husband Willie of Gary; three sons: Samuel Hicks of  Las Vegas,  NV,  Adam Hicks and fiancé Kaley Kitron of Rochester, Nathaniel "Nate" Hicks of Rochester;  several grandchildren and a great grandson; two brothers: William "Willie" Hicks of Chicago, Jesse  Hicks of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Jim in death are his parents, grandson Aiden James Hicks, and brother Arthur Hicks.

A celebration of the life of James S. Hicks will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 6 , 2017 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th Street, Rochester.  Pastor Danny Honeycutt will officiate.  Friends may visit with the family an hour prior to services.
